A U.S. State Department law enforcement agent from the mainland was arrested for fatally shooting a man in his 20s early this morning on Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki, sources said.
Honolulu police identified the alleged shooter as Christopher W. Deedy, 27, and sources who asked to remain anonymous confirmed that he is a federal agent who was off-duty at the time of the shooting.
A State Department spokeswoman in Washington, D.C., said only, "We are aware of the incident and we cannot comment on an ongoing investigation."
She would not confirm whether he was here for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation conference which begins Tuesday. But Deedy's LinkedIn web page identifies him as a special agent working for the Bureau of Diplomatic Security at the State Department and from the Washington D.C. area.
According to the State Department's website the bureau is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for the conduct of U.S. foreign policy. President Barack Obama and 20 other world leaders are expected to attend the APEC Leaders' Meeting next weekend.

1. Tell me a little about your current position, what is a typical day like for you?
I am a Special Agent in the US Department of States Foreign Service and currently assigned to the Washington Field Office. My two primary duties in this assignment are conducting criminal investigations and working on personal protection details.
A typical day in the first capacity varies and could entail performing records checks, conducting surveillance, executing an arrest warrant, or a number of other activities. Working a protection detail varies as well, and could range from liaison activities with visiting foreign delegations to escorting foreign dignitaries throughout the city in a secure motorcade.
i read it happened at mcdonalds

can you summarize the link, i can’t see it
He doens’t really look like any of the DIPSEC guys I’ve encountered - most of them are a wee bit more, um, humorless looking...
Four guys got in an altercation at McDonalds at 3 AM - one local dies at the hospital after being shot. Looks like State guy was in town of APEC conference next week - doesn’t say if all the others involved were local or not. Some bars in Hawaii can stay open til 4 AM (not that I’ve ever stayed awake long enought to close one)...
Another symptom of a systemic disease —Who would have thought we’d be using the ATF to DISTRIBUTE machine-guns? Or the FBI burning down churches...?
Here we see another logical step in the progression of a DISEASE.
Why is a guy working for the State Dept's executing arrest warrants?
Why do we have a Dept. of Education with a SWAT team that performs DYNAMIC ENTRIES...?
Every bozo with a badge wants to put on ninjya nomex kook gear and go kicking down doors.
When a country fights very long, low-intensity wars, soldiers are asked to act like cops, and soon cops act like soldiers.
We don’t yet know the situation, but when I hear about these kinds of shootings I can’t help but think about the off duty federal agent who shot a friendly dog in a Maryland dog park filled with kids and families. Not all of these agents have the sense to be one, and some have a problem.
Such is the local word about what the PD does after you grease some meth head that tries an armed home invasion: blow him away, and expect to spend the night in jail. No castle doctrine here, hopefully one day if enough people with influence are put through the BS wringer after defending themselves.
But, if the various alphabet gangs get a "get out of jail free" pass where normal citizens get put through the legal wringer, that is just very wrong. Like most major urban areas, Honolulu has some very bad sections. Luckily, I live on another island, in a fairly small town.
I quit going anywhere but Kauai. I suppose I should head back to the Big Island one day...
“four males got into an altercation...”
3 locals jumped a holly? One primo warrior got shot and killed. Good kill if this is the case.
i found an updated story, it says witnesses saw the victim of the shooting had been drinking and calling people derogatory names.
“Police say he got into an altercation with Christopher Deedy, an off-duty U.S. State Department special agent, and was shot.”
