Gov. Rick Perry kept the focus on his economic plan when he addressed hundreds of influential Iowa Republicans on Friday night, skipping any discussion of the social issues that would appeal directly to religious conservatives who play a large role in the Iowa caucuses.

Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum seized the opportunity to appeal to religious conservatives at the dinner.
We are a faith-filled people that believe in the moral enterprise that is America, Santorum said. We are not a party that just focuses on cutting tax rates.
Perry, in contrast, talked about reforming entitlement programs, erasing budget earmarks, freezing federal pay and eliminating tax loopholes.
Some call for changing Washington with a pair of tweezers, Perry said, but hell bring a wrecking ball to Washington. Yesterday, Perrys chosen tool of destruction was a sledgehammer so hes apparently ratcheting up his plans to tear the place down.
Newt Gingrich drew the most vigorous applause of the night when he said, if nominated, that he would challenge President Barack Obama to seven Lincoln-Douglas-style debates.
And if Obama ignored the challenge, Gingrich said he would show up everywhere Obama went, ready to debate. The crowd loved it.
Neither Mitt Romney nor Herman Cain attended the event, which also featured Texas Congressman Ron Paul and Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.

Most Iowans I’ve spoken with say that jobs & the economy are their #1 issues!
Our entire country needs a doer, not a talker right now!
Rick Perry is a Doer, Not a Talker
(One of Governor Rick Perry’s new TV ads running in Iowa)

I’m a doer, not a talker.
