The Perry Paradox
The wall Street Journal ^ | 11-03-11 | Dan Henninger

Rick Perry says Texas is the most successful state in America. He's right. Texan economic output exceeds Mexico's and Australia's and rivals India's. Rick Perry has been governor of Texas for nearly 11 years. Does the logic of politics lead us to conclude that the governor of the nation's most successful state, ipso facto, is the best man to be president of the economically gasping United States?

We are about to find out. Getting lost, however, among the governor's adventures in the lovely hamlets of New Hampshire is that Texas, with or without him, has a story the rest of the U.S. should hear—the parts of the country that want a better economy than they've got now.

I have no desire to see our country look like Texas.

Texas has the second-highest poverty rate among the 50 states, behind only Mississippi..... It has the second-highest percentage of population without a high school diploma...... It is tied with Mississippi for having the biggest percentage of workers paid at or below the minimum wage.

....additionally a large steady infiltration of muslims...by invitation... from Gov. Perry.

No thank you.

So what you are saying is, you can't tell the difference from a state like New York, California or an economic giant like Texas, with undeniable statistics and history to back up the original claim.

Score: statistically validated realists-1,

ignorant, single minded, bigoted, Pessimists-0

I’ve lived in Texas my whole life, and yes, the governor DOES make some difference (to all you Texans, remember “leather face”?)

But, having said that - the main reason for the success of Texas is simple: the legislature only meets every other year. The less government you have, the better!

And to the earlier poster going on about our poverty rate, etc., I say YES. Keep posting your message everywhere. Too damm many people are moving down here. Most of them I don’t mind, but too many liberals and liberal ideas are sneaking in.

How much is due to Perry, and how much to economic factors in place before he took office?

I agree with you. Part is government isn't sitting around all day with nothing to do but interfere.

Good point.

You should click the link. It’s a great article and it’s not a Perry puff piece. It actually addresses your question. It really is a fair picture of Texas and Perry.

Right now we are looking to end the era of crony capitalism.

People are sick of it. If you are, Perry ain’t your guy.

More like too many moving UP there. Meaning illegals - destroying the state from within.

I lived in Texas for no less than 5 years, and of the various jobs I held there was always the same old story, wages are low and if you don’t like it hit the road because someone else will do the job, possibly even cheaper.

Sure texas has jobs, low paying jobs, I mean really low wages.

“More like too many moving UP there. “

Nope. The main damage we suffer comes from the North. Just like two days ago when they tried to give me ANOTHER plastic dumpster, for "organic" recyclables. This at a time when almost every city service is being cut back, we're spending 20 million on another unneeded harebrained liberal idea.

And it didn't come from any illegal. It came from another of the over-educated/under common sensed liberal nitwits we've imported into city government. I'd trade them five to one for a hard working wets any day.

LOL!

I am earning in the mid 6 figures, and the company I work for was born and bred it the great state of Texas.

You might try digging yourself out of that rut you so happily claim you are stuck in. Blaming the state of Texas for your lack of ambition is laughable, as well as obvious!

Bingo. Texas has a history of economic opportunity that pre-dates Rick’s arrival on the planet. Let’s see Rick explain away his Franchise Tax as a replacement for income tax revenues here in Texas that hurts small business owners. Let’s see Rick explain away $400+ M in fraud waste and abuse under his “pay for jobs” ETF/TEF scheme. Let’s see Rick explain away propping up failed green energy companies with millions of dollars. Rick can take credit for job growth in Texas, but most Texans know better.
