Obama Aims at Election Laws
WALL STREET JOURNAL ^ | 11/2/11 | BY JONATHAN WEISMAN AND CAROL E. LEE

CHICAGO—The Obama re-election campaign has quietly opened a counteroffensive against Republican-backed changes to election laws that Democrats say will suppress votes for their candidates and limit their get-out-the-vote drives.

The effort, led by former White House counsel Robert Bauer, prompted the suspension of an Ohio law limiting early voting. Campaign officials produced educational materials to counter a Wisconsin law that requires voters to produce photo I.D.s—but disallows those used by Wisconsin colleges.

By this spring, the Obama re-election campaign will mount what Mr. Bauer called an unprecedented "voter protection" effort, fielding thousands of volunteers in battleground states to help navigate ...

And when the Democrats actually suppress the military absentee ballots the Republicans simply yawn.

One has to respect the Democrats for one thing, they play to win. They protect and support their voters. The Republicans could learn a lot in this regard.

They protect and support their voters.

Multiple times for each voter per election. Dead, alive, fictional, you name it. They are relentless.

Good point re: the military vote.

Why is there always a panic at the last minute to get these military votes counted? It’s not like it’s a big surprise that these elections are held in November every couple of years, yet just like clockwork, something will go wrong at the last minute and the ballots will not be mailed (or otherwise made available) to the military on time.

You’re right; the GOP does NOTHING to fight for these votes.

The congress has 60 to overule executive orders...

There are crickets chirping in Mr. Boehner’s office. He is a worthless piece of sheet.

but disallows those used by Wisconsin colleges.

The college ID shows that the person is named "Joe Doe", but SINCE IT DOES NOT SHOW HIS RESIDENCE ADDRESS, does nothing to stop the student from voting at the on-campus poll, then again at his off-campus-residence using an absentee ballot, and then again at his parents' address using another absentee ballot.

Boehner has nothing to do with the Senate. And this has to do with Hussein’s campaign arm, not the government...

Let’s focus on the evil of liberalism, our true enemy. Hussein’s cult controls the Senate and the White House.

Rather than spend all the money fighting the law, why don’t the Democrats just buy these “poor” people a photo ID?

One has to respect the Democrats for one thing, they play to win.

They don't "play to win"—so much—as "they scheme".

Requiring ID to show you are who you claim to be seems reasonable and not all that oppressive. I recall a bipartisan commission recommending such a law be passed federally. I was in Minnesota when Franken stole that election due to ACORN tactics. People are being sent to jail for that scandal as I type.

I think Reagan69 meant 60 days, not 60 votes.

60 days to challenge an EO.

Can anyone confirm that is true, or is it false?

Just taking a wild stab here: Because they are not actually in the business of promoting fair elections?

False accusations of Republican vote suppression are the name of the game. This is the libelous platform on which all their efforts at fraud stand.

A few guys in Philly believed the lies and actually stood around with nightsticks on election day in 2004. Whoops.

Bob Bauer, helped shield Obama from eligibility issues , sealed records. Doesn't seem the most ethical man. They are trying to counter attempts to counter their voter fraud.
