Junk Science: In an attempt to revive climate hype, a chart by a Berkeley scientist claims to show global warming has not slowed. In fact, what it shows is no warming for the last 11 years.
Self-proclaimed climate skeptic Richard Muller, professor of physics at the University of California, Berkeley, made quite a splash recently in the Wall Street Journal with his compilation of data from ground stations and conclusion that the earth has warmed since the 1950s and continues to warm.
Muller's team, the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature (BEST) project, concluded that the average land temperature has risen 1 degree Centigrade or about 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit since the mid-1950s.
Released just in time for a major United Nations climate summit in Durban, South Africa, Muller's data and conclusions cheered the warm-mongers among us, including columnists such as Eugene Robinson who, on these pages, crowed that the Climategate scientists had been proved right and that even the infamous "hockey stick graph" showing sudden and accelerating man-caused temperature rise had been vindicated.
Not so fast, says Professor Judith Curry, a distinguished climate researcher with more than 30 years experience and the second named co-author of the BEST project's four research papers. Curry, who chairs the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology, says the project's research data show there has been no increase in world temperatures since the end of the 1990s.
"There is no scientific basis for saying that warming hasn't stopped," Curry told Britain's Daily Mail on Sunday.

He has been a full on, sky is falling, alarmist for many years now. I guess he figured no one would check up on his past proclamations.
The earth has been warming since the middle of the last ice age. It has been documented that there have been at least 7 previous ice ages. The earth must have warmed significantly between each one. The cause? Must have been dinosaur farts!

Naaah, that ain’t it at all, it was them cave men ridin’ ‘round on all them snowmobiles, they didn’t keep ‘em tuned up rite. What? You thought they chased all them Mammoths on foot, did ya?

Not only prestigious, but Georgia Tech put a whupping on Clemson in football over the weekend.

Yes, Ms. Curry is one of the whistle blower in this story. She is listed as a co-author but Muller didn’t consult with her about his conclusions and his unethical press releases. I believe she also compared this situation with the Climategate “hide the decline” scandle.
Additionally not specifically stated was that the data used was the same data that was used before. It was not the raw data, but the manipulated data after the raw data was destroyed to preclude subsequent researchers from validating or repudiating the original result. The raw data was destroyed on purpose.
His chapters on global warming didn't seem anti-warming or neutral, OTOH I got the impression he bought into the full-on MGW histrionics.
OTT, the book is worth the read for the nuke and radiation chapters.

Heres is Prof. Richard Muller, a Berkeley physicist, toward the conclusion of his 2003 paper on global warming data:
Let me be clear. My own reading of the literature and study of paleoclimate suggests strongly that carbon dioxide from burning of fossil fuels will prove to be the greatest pollutant of human history. It is likely to have severe and detrimental effects on global climate.
Not exactly a statement one would expect from a climate "skeptic".
AGW skepticism starts to eat it’s own.
We will be seeing a lot more of this in the next few years.
Great article!
Here's another statement he makes, pushing his September 21, 2009 book: "Global warming is real, and represents a true threat."
This guy is not a skeptic, he's a Warmist"
Global warming ping
