SARAJEVO -- An unidentified man on Friday in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, fired shots at the building housing the embassy of the United States.

The shooter is seen at a Sarajevo intersection (Tanjug) Initially, local media in Sarajevo said that the shooter was "shot and killed by members of the Bosnian police", but Tanjug news agency is reporting that it received confirmation that the man was lightly injured and arrested.

Some local media also claimed that the attacker was accompanied by two other men.

A Bosnian police officer was also injured during the incident.

Eyewitnesses claimed earlier on Friday that the attacker was "dressed like a member of the (radical Islamic) Wahhabi movement", and that he was armed with an AK-47 assault rifle.

According to this, he was shouting quotes from the Koran during the attack. Unofficially, the shooter was identified as 23-year-old Mevlid Jašarević - an ethnic Muslim (Bosniak) from the southwestern Serbian region of Sandžak.

Beta news agency is quoting eyewitnesses as saying that although the shooting took place at the rush hour, the attacker "did not wish to shoot civilians", but instead "called on U.S. citizens to exit the embassy".

The shooter attacked the building at 15:40 CET, which was followed by "a half-hour battle with police".

There were no casualties among the embassy's staff, according to the newspaper.

I guess that you never heard that in Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia a “Muslim” became the name for ethincity. In general I agree with you, because nowdays Bosniaks (BosniaNs are Serbs, Croats and Bosnians that live on the theritory of Bosnia) or SFR Yugoslavia Muslims were christians, Serbs and Croats before they converted into Islam during the Ottoman occupation.

I’m glad to see a story that specifies the brand of Islam. Wahhabi is one of the worst.

I have heard people called ethnic Jews. Not religious but still carry on some of the traditions.

Man, this is really going to mess with the Anti-Serbian narrative that’s been dominant for the past 20 years.

yes, he was wounded from the Index link from above that I posted: According to the Bosnian Federal Television, the attacker is called Mevlid Jašarević and comes from Novi Pazar, Serbia. He is a young man aged 23 years. Radio Sarajevo reported that, if it`s the same person,Jašarević is a member of Wahhabi movement, which is on the Oct. 30th 2010. arrested in Novi Pazar, because he and Fatmir Muratović were suspicious to police during the visits of foreign ambassadors to that city. At that time police found out that Jasarevic during 2005 in Vienna, Austria, was sentenced to three years in prison for robbery of 100,000 euros, to mellow after the sentence was expelled from Austria. Jašarević was one of the leaders of the Wahhabi community in Maoca near Brcko, where the police forces expelled them out of Bosnia and Herzegovina in February 2010. The action carried out a vast and arrested certain person, but action has not yet received a judicial epilogue.

In Serbia, in Novi Pazar region (from where this US embassy attacker Jasarevic is) in 2007. broke out the conflict between wahhabi members and local police. Police then shot their leader and during 2009. 12 Novi Pazar Wahhabis were sentenced to 60 years in prison. However many of them are in Bosnia, financed by S. Arabia and Jordan money and last year Republica Srpska polica arrested a big group of Wahhabis in Maoca village.
