Perry has now shown he is in the same class as Romney, McCain, and Graham. I am a mile from Colonel Roger's of the 2nd Texas’ grave and that's him I hear spinning.

Instate tuition is for citizens of Texas. Illegals are not citizens of Texas. They are not even citizens of The United States.

Texas believes in-state tuition is for residents of Texas. That’s their business.

You would think that a smart guy like Perry, capable of piloting a C-130, could grasp that concept.

That's not what you stated. You said that those who qualify for instate tuition are getting taxpayer subsidized tuition. I simply replied that your characterization was incorrect.

As for your new comment, you are incorrect again. The State of Texas never passed anything that said you have to be a citizen of Texas to get instate tuition. You have to be domiciled here for X amount of time, which means you are paying taxes here in Texas. For the child of an illegal, the child must be domiciled here 3 years prior to high school graduation.

Except there's no law in Texas that states that you must be a citizen of Texas in order to get instate tuition. You do, however, have to reside in Texas for a set amount of time, and therefore pay taxes here.

True. Perry took care of those little details and La Raza thanks him for it.

I agree that the liberal revisionist historians have twisted the cause, effect, and meaning of the Civil War and it’s various flags, symbols, and intentions of most of those who fought in the Confederacy.

However I can not escape the fact that the Confederate States of America was a foreign government and has no place in the official recognition by state or our national government.

If the Confederate flag can be officially recognized why not the Spain, England, or even Mexico? One could reasonably argue that each of those countries are a part of American history and there is a lot of pride taken by some people in what that stood for at the time.

Message to my fellow southerners; display the Confederate flag in your personal endeavors if you must but pushing for official recognition by state governments is a slippery slope no one wants.

“Actually, the Civil War was about slavery and we know it was about slavery because the people who succeeded for the Union told us it was about slavery when the drafted the Texas Declaration of Succession.”

Error #1 - This was NOT a Civil War. It was a war between the states. A civil war is when one party attempts to overthrow a government. Didn’t happen, as the South just wanted to be left alone.

Error #2: I know of no one who succeeded from the Union. There are a number who seceded from the Union, though.

Error #3: You interpret wrongly when you say this war was about slavery. It was about the imposition of the federal govt into states’ affairs that caused economic disruption. Slavery was strictly an economic issue to the affected states. Slavery being the cause is the historical rewrite that plagues the school systems in this country in many areas other than this. Was it wrong? Of course it was, but so what? Women not being allowed to vote was also wrong, so get over it.

There are way too many people who look past root causes and leap toward the emphathy part of the human plight.

FWIW, Texas was not part of “the South” in the Civil War period.

OK. They were part of the Confederate West after ratifying the Confederate consitituion in March 1861.

You’ve made a distinction without a difference.

That sure is an odd view considering that the people who drafted the Texas Declaration of secession specifically told us in writing that they were leaving the Union in order to maintain slavery.

Do you somehow believe that some Yankee intellectuals modified that dicument over the last 30 years?

Are there people seriously trying to get pro-confederate licence plate designs implemented?

Maybe he just opposes it because it’s stupid. I doubt there are any candidates running who would support a license plate in their state.

But it would be funny if Herman Cain came out for a confederate license plate. Given how offended he was about some turned-over rock with the name of a flower on it, my guess is he’d have a fit if he saw a confederate license plate.

Are you seriously trying to equate the Gadsden Flag, and the patriots who served under it, with the confederacy?
