Newt’s Resurrection? The former speaker launches an unlikely comeback.
National Review ^ | 10/24/11 | Robert Costa

Posted on 10/24/2011 1:23:12 PM PDT by BCrago66

In June, after his top advisers bolted, Newt Gingrich was supposed to be finished. Four months later, after a series of sharp debates, his poll numbers are climbing and his coffers are stuffed. Behind the scenes, his aides aim to capitalize on the resurrection.

“There is plenty of room,” says R. C. Hammond, the campaign spokesman. He bets that by early January, when New Hampshire and Iowa are blanketed by snow, Gingrich’s “tortoise” campaign will inch ahead.

I usually only read about a paragraph before I post these things (thus fulfilling my duty as the Newt-bot in residence), and I just noticed that this one is a fairly long reported article; 3 pages. So I'll enjoy reading it, and also seeing what you all think of it.

I really don’t need to read it.

Only a fool would deny that Newt is a fine campaigner. Unfortunately it also takes a fool to trust him.

Newt is a con man! He is brilliant and a good debater but his Achilles heel is his terrible lack of judgement (and I’m not talking about his personal failings)

He was paid $300,000 to lobby on the behave of Freddie Mac to push Congress not to reform the trouble agency less than a year before it was involved in the 2008 economic crash. He was shilling for Dede scazzafavo and knew she was a lib just to do the bidding of the republican party....his hand has been in all kinds of mess that we are in today

Newt supports “limited amnesty”, i.e. strong pro-illegal.
He was in Global Warming scam ad in Nancy Pelosi(!)

His personal issues (cheated his wife) I might forgive, but last thing we need is another pro-illegal Global Warming nut as a President.

I’m ready to put on my Newt Boots... but only AFTER he repudiates his time on the Pelosi couch.

Are you reading this, Newt?

Are you reading this Mr. or Mrs. Newt Advisor?

Repudiate that time on the Pelosi couch. Repudiate it now.

I would vote for him against Obama.

2 years ago I would have never considered Newt, but as of this moment he is my first choice. I’m not happy with our options. The problems we have right now can only be fixed with someone who has well-thought-out solutions and someone with detailed knowledge of the issues. Even though I don’t always agree with him, Newt is the smartest person up on stage at those debates, and his solutions are deeper than suface sound bites.

NR doing their best to attack Cain on another front. Dilute Cain’s support and pave the way for Romney.

Well, I just did a web search and following is one of the first links that came up. If you want more, web-search yourself.
“Gingrich Explains Why He Did Global Warming Ad With Pelosi”
By Noel Sheppard | April 23, 2008

He explained it again last Tuesday on Hannity’s radio and TV programs. I have also heard him explain it numerous times. He simply thought Conservatives ought to have a voice in the discussion. Pelosi even said in the ad, “We don’t always see eye to eye, do we Newt?” http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/05/12/gingrich-feels-heat-global-warming-ad-pelosi/

I guess you didn’t watch the ad. The “don’t always see eye to eye” was followed by a big bad ugly BUT.

As far as the “we need to be at the table”... weak. Very weak.

The question is this: where does he stand on Crap’n’Tax? And I don’t mean some obscure link or some 10 second mention in a discussion with one of his Faux News pals... I mean: I want Newt to come out and strongly attack Crap’n’Tax... and convince me that he MEANS it.

I agree that Newt’s “limited amnesty” is not good, but all of the candidates—including even Bachmann—endorsed as much back several debates ago.

It’s too bad that Santorum has come across as such a whiner and identified with social issues ahead of economic ones, because the slot for “not Romney (or Perry)” is still wide open. Cain and Newt would be the leading contenders, but Santorum could have positioned himself for it as well.
