LAS VEGAS — The good news continued for Herman Cain Friday, as the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO won the Western Republican Leadership Conference straw poll of GOP presidential contenders, edging out former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich — and leaving Texas Gov. Rick Perry in a distant fifth place.

"Establishment Repyoobican teeth gnashing. "

They need defeating just as bad as Obama and the Democrats need defeating. I can't stand Club-McCain.

Mr. Cain, whose longshot campaign got a major boost by winning a major Florida straw poll last month, received nearly 31 percent of the vote and Mr. Romney pulled in nearly 29 percent of the vote. Mr. Gingrich, who has also risen in recent national polls after his campaign’s shaky start, secured more than 20 percent of the vote. Texas Rep. Ron Paul finished with about 10 percent, Mr. Perry received almost 4 percent, and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota received just 1 percent.

Gee I guess Cain better pull out soon so that Perr...er, Gingrich? Can beat Romney.

i guess rick santorum’s completely dishonest campaign to paint cain as pro-infanticide isn’t reflected in the polls yet.

It is time for a couple of these people to drop out.

Seems to me that back when Keyes or Perot were running, a candidate needed a certain percentage to be allowed in the debates. Its time the 1% ers leave. jmo

A open letter to Herman Cain Supporters,

What is it with you Cain People? Isn’t it clear by now that your candidate is just Mitt’s stalking horse?

Sure he is up in all the polls, but those polls mean nothing. Besides PMS-NBC and The New York Slimes says Cain is just a poor Minstrel putting on a show for Redneck Racist Terrorist that make up the ‘Teabagger’ party.

Face it there is little difference between the Cain and Mitt, why Cain even supported Mitt in 2008!

Have you Cain people no shame? Doesn’t it embarrassed you you taht your candidate is little more that Mitt’s erand boy? Everyone knows that even should Cain win with 51% of the delegates he will just turn them over to Mitt.

Clearly you are embarrassing yourself and the Republican Party with your support of a man who is blatantly using the nominating process to sell books and get a nice cushy job on Fox.

Sure Cain has a plan, but it’s not a prefect plan and yes its easy to understand and yet you don’t understand that’s part of what is wrong with Cain’s plan! Mitt has shown that a good tax plan can not be printed on anything less than whole forest worth of paper. And that we don’t need to understand a plan, because we will be told what’s in it by our high dollar accountants once its past.

Lastly I must ask you do you Cain supporters know that Cain has horns and a tail?

For the good of the party and the country please help us get Cain out of the race and allow the only person that can beat Barack Obama, (Fill in this Blank) to win the nomination.

Sad for Mr. Cain - his polling isn't translating into campaign contributions. Here's a graph of fundraising figures from the FEC...

But - wait a week, he's behind Paul in this tally, and I can't buy that continuing into the immediate future. New figures ought to be out the last of this month.

In the overall look at the race, Cain might just serve as the Draft Car.

Perry didn’t implode and Cain take off till that quarter was almost over, I expect Cain has racked is many millions more by now and once he beats Romney in Iowa by double digits a waterfall of money will fall on him.

I just read this in an article on another thread and it applies here:

Which is why so many Americans are wild about Herman Cain. Because while the establishment detests him, parents like me are at the end of our rope and he promises a clean sweep. That and because unlike anybody else on the debating platform he's laughing at what fools the Left-Wing Liberals are while every pore on that wonderful bald, black and shiny mathematician's head of his oozes determination. And courage. And hope.

It was the tail and the horn thing that gave me away wasn’t it? ;-)

Though I bet there are Perry people on here that would believe it! :-)

Cain doesn’t need the same amount of money as the “traditional” campaigns. He doesn’t use high-priced consultants or have a huge staff/entourage. And he told his people up front he would not go into debt for his campaign.

He is getting absolutely huge amounts of earned media and that shows no sign of slowing down.

When he will need money, maybe, is when it gets to the point that he needs to start buying ads, either once the GOP race becomes a 2-3 man race or in the general.

Dunno. Looks like his contributions leaped by about 300%, maybe 400% in just a week. True, he's way behind the money men, but how's that working out for their polling #s?

Steve Forbes and Phil Gramm both found out that money doesn't buy primaries.
