Local ties to ICLEI fading
Sequim Gazette ^ | Oct 19, 2011 | MARK ST.J. COUHIG

Say goodbye to ICLEI.

The international organization, created by the United Nations to gather local governments around the world in a commitment to sustainable development, is leaving Clallam County.

The City of Sequim’s membership in ICLEI lapsed at the end of September.

Clallam County Administrator Jim Jones has been directed by the county commissioners to remove the annual $1,200 payment for county dues to ICLEI from the next budget. Unless the commissioners act before Dec. 6 to rescind that decision, the new budget will reflect the commissioners’ order.

ICLEI, which is formally known as “ICLEI: Local Governments for Sustainability,” has been the subject of heated debate for the past few years, with the Concerned Citizens of Clallam County taking a stance against local membership.

Bill Paulbitski explained the issue the Concerned Citizens have with ICLEI, pointing out that it is an administrative organization tasked with carrying out Agenda 21, the U.N.’s template for global sustainable growth.

“It’s not a question of being green,” he said.

“Everyone should be green. It’s authority. That’s the question,” Paulbitski said.

Good news some are waking up. Unfortunately the town next to me has just implemented ‘sustainable development’. *sigh*

"People are concerned, he said, because ICLEI is providing administrative functions that are rightly reserved to the people of the United States.

ICLEI and it's operatives in the US lure councils to fall under their spell with the promise of grants and free software to help them implement international policy on a local level.

This is a great step. Especially considering it happened in the Pacific Northwest where international sentiment runs high.

Start spreading the word and help your neighbors get plugged in to learn that it's not too late to drive this monster out of our lives.

Some recognize the value of this, and others would rather gripe and “tell the teacher”. Don’t assume that your lack of appreciation of the import of this article speaks for everyone. Thank you.

Breaking new is breaking news, no?. Agenda 21 is followed widely throughout the nation and the FR network.

Help me out if there is a breach of protocol .

The City of Sequim’s membership in ICLEI lapsed at the end of September.

This doesn't keep the bureaucrats working for the city from consulting and instituting ICLEI policies. It's the philosophy that is so insidious, as is taught in public schools. It's not going away so easily as by canceling a membership subscription.

Thanks for this post. It’s extremely important people know whatever news comes along about Agenda 21, and I believe personally the local effect of the what I consider covert actions of the Left, and the ICLEI in creating State, and local government rules, and regulations to the U.N., thus International standards.

The enemy within again. Whittling away at our sovereignty.

"It's not going away so easily as by canceling a membership subscription."

That's true, but there are some good points.
1. Everytime Agenda 21 and ICLEI is mentioned in the media, more people take note and wonder what it is about.
2. Now when we go to council meetings at which more takings are being proposed we can stand and say, "This sounds like Agenda 21", or "THIS SOUNDS LIKE ICLEI"
3. Maybe we will reach the point where the liberals are as afraid to hear that accusation come up as the republicans are about the charge of "racist".
