The battle for the Republican presidential nomination erupted into all out war tonight as Mitt Romney and Rick Perry got personal in a series of angry clashes.
Standing almost toe to toe, the two men repeatedly held up the debate as they bickered over everything from immigration to job creation.

Rick Perry: Those people who hire illegals ought to be penalized, and Mitt, you loose all of your standing from my perspective because you hired illegals in your home and you knew about it for a year and the idea that you stand here before us and talk about that you're strong on immigration is on it's face the height of hypocrisy.
Mitt Romney: [laughs] Rick, I don't think I've ever hired an illegal in my life and so I'm looking forward to finding your facts on that because that just-
Rick Perry: I'll tell you what-
Mitt Romney: Rick again-
Rick Perry: I'll tell you the truth, the newspaper-
Mitt Romney: I'm speaking! I'm speaking! I'm speaking! I'm speaking! You get 30 seconds-
Rick Perry: It's time for you to tell the truth-
Mitt Romney: This is the way the rules work, is that I get 60 seconds-
Rick Perry: No but the American people want the truth-
Mitt Romney: -and then you get 30 seconds to respond. Anderson?! Would you please, would you please wait? Are you just going to keep talking- are you going to let me finish what I have to say?
Anderson Cooper: I thought Republicans followed the rules-
Mitt Romney: This has been a tough couple of debates for Rick and I understand that so you're going to get testy, but lets let, I'll tell you what- let me take my time and then you can take your time.
Rick Perry: Have at it.
Mitt Romney: My time is this. I have, in my, state when I was governor, I took the action of empowering our state police to enforce immigration laws. When you were governor, you said 'I don't want to build a fence'. You put in place a magnet- you talk about magnets- you put in place a magnet to draw illegals into the state which was giving $100,000 of tuition credit to illegals who come into this country. And then you have states- the big states of illegal immigrants are California and Florida. Over the last 10 years, they've had no increase in illegal immigration.Texas has had 60 per cent increase in illegal immigration in Texas. If there's someone who has a record as governor with regards to illegal immigration who doesn't stand up to muster, it's you, not me.
Rick Perry: You stood here in front of the American people and did not tell the truth- that you had illegals working on your property and the newspaper came to you and brought it to your attention and you still, a year later, had those individuals working for you. The idea that you can sit here and talk about any of us having immigration issue is beyond me. I've got a strong policy: I've always been against amnesty. You on the other hand were for amnesty.
Mitt Romney: You wrote an op-ed in the newspaper saying you open to amnesty, that's number one. Number two, we hired a lawn company to mow our lawn and they had illegal immigrants that were working there and when that was pointed out to us, we let them go-
Rick Perry: A year later?
Mitt Romney: You have a problem with allowing someone to finish speaking, and what i would suggest, and if you want to become President of the United States, you've gotta let both people speak, so let me speak. So we went to the company and we said 'Look, you can't have any illegals working on my property. I'm running for office for Pete's sake! I can't have illegals.' It turns out they, once again, they had someone who had falsified their documents, had documents, and therefore we fired them. Let me tell ya, it is hard in this country, as an individual home owner, to know if people who are contractors working at your home, if they've hired people that are illegal. If I'm President we'll put in place an e-verify system, which you've opposed, to makes sure we can find out who's here legally and not and crack down on people who are here illegally.
CNN-YouTube Debate:
Sound familiar? [LOOK who interrupts whom!!]
Funny Accent Mitt Romney, discussing reports illegal immigrants did landscaping at his home: It would "not be American" to check workers' papers simply because they have a "funny accent." [give health care and education to illegals]
Sound familiar?
Mike Huckabee, replying to Romney's criticism of providing college scholarships to children of illegal immigrants: "In all due respect, we are a better country than to punish children for what their parents did."
At the same debate: John McCain: "We must recognize these are God's children as well. ... I will enforce the borders first. But we won't demagogue it."
They looked like a couple of kids arguing.
I must say Romney is really bad at throwing out accusations that aren't true like amnesty, knowing Perry doesn't have time to rebut.
Good debate overall by Perry.
Once you identify an illegal it must be the law to SEND THEM BACK HOME, not give more money.
Check out Mitt and his “funny accent” rage in 2008 — This really rattles him.
Its been a tough couple of debates for both of em.
Why is it considered bad to send someone home? Usually people want to go home.
And Perry smiled when he got the money quote from Mitt:
Romney: 'Look, you can't have any illegals working on my property. I'm running for office for Pete's sake! I can't have illegals.'
Dana Perino called Rick a bully on F&F.
Romney lost this debate. He came across as a petulant little silver spooned brat.
Pray for America
The Bush's are in the bag for Romney. The Bush-Rove-Hutchison Machine couldn't unseat Gov. Perry with their primary challenge, so they're going to do it with negative comments from their well placed talking heads.
The entire slate of candidates looked more like they were running for President of the Homeowners Association than President of the USA.
Gingrich properly chastised his fellow candidates to stop bickering among themselves.
And only Romney laid his hand on Gov. Perry, unlike the article that states they touched each other.
Mitt is a bully who doesn't like to be challenged or contradicted. The 2008 exchange linked above with Rudy shows the same denial and then his angry streak and vulnerability.
Newt is well positioned to be the house mother in chief -- no one is going after him.
You're going to send her home because her mother brought her here when she was 2?? Absurd....
The debate last night showed that Perry is not Bush. He will hit back hard. I also loved that soundbite Perry got out of Mitt. It will work well in future ads.
This argument exposed Romney for the North East liberal he really is. His face was beet red. Romney is as arrogant as Oboma. They both have that self deified air about them.
Gawd. I find Romney repulsive. He's like a snake oil salesman. He'll tell you anything you want to hear, then turn around and tell the next guy something else. UGH!
Perry can couple that Mitt quote with the ones from the 2008 debate and have a powerhouse ad.
Titled: "Mitt the Hypocrite"
bttt
People who imagine Mexico to be a totally disgusting third-world "hellhole" have no clue about how bad MOST of the world really is.
It is not punishment on this planet to be sent home to one of the better countries.
Elite Mitt feels entitled and this whole debate campaigning thing (AGAIN) is pissing him off.

Mitt and George NY World's Fair 1964-1965
Have been to Mexico...disgusting, filthy place.
This has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but did you realize if you rearrange the letters in “NORMY” you can get “ROMNY”?
(Strokes goatee slowly and wonders...)
Now, visit Bengla Desh ~
Neither is presidential material. OK, if the silly voters of their respective states wanted them as governor fine. OTOH that where their lack luster career should end. They have no business in the WH. This is why debates help. They sort out the chaff.
You gotta be kidding! Romney belittles everyone else on that stage every chance he gets. He believe he's soooo far above all the rest.
In my opinion, Romney is the monster. He's obnoxious!
He makes me want to puke, and that's no joke. I don't know exactly what it is about this guy, but he literally turns my stomach.
I am ABO ( Anybody But Obama)
I can't stand the Paul's brand of Politics.
Top that with Mitt's "funny accent" quote from 2008, and the Hispanic vote stays home or the Democratic Party voting rolls explode and we get 4 more years of Obama and the end of free market capitalism.
He reminds you of Barack Obama.
The Dems were probably a little disappointed that Rick Perry hit Mitt Romney on this issue and they didn’t get to.
If you didnt hear it now, you were definitely going to hear it from them.
Mitt the hypocrite.
Absolutely True. “The Bush machine is in the bag for Romney.” Dana Perino makes me tired. I have complained to Fox News about her appearance and manner on The Five.
I am afraid that the ‘establishment’ GOP is determined to have Romney as the nominee. Romney is slick and Perry is a nice guy.
I want to unseat Romney come hell or high water. Anybody but Romney.
Romney lost his ‘kewl’ with both Santorum and Perry. Romney showed he had difficulty handling direct confrontation when he is pushed off his script. CNN post-debate commentary said the WH was looking on and ‘liked’ what they saw with Romney [his imploding].
Santorum reminds me of a little yap-dog, but he did score a few direct hits at both Romney and Cain.
Cain and his 999 took some direct hits. His ‘their numbers are wrong’ without further explanation and his ‘details are on my website’ are weak responses.
Too bad Newt is Newt. He always has many good lines, but he also has a trainload of old baggage from the 90s that would dog him through the election, if he started rising in the polls.
==
If we would take the good parts of each one and create an entirely new ‘candidate’, would we have a good candidate or just a Frankenstein monster?
IF you'd rather NOT be pinged FReepmail me.
IF you'd like to be added FReepmail me. Thanks.

Childish bickering. Why even bring up this minute point.
Dana Perino called Rick a bully on F&F.
I think it was Romney that was the big bully all evening, as he spewed lie after lie on Rick and others when he knew they wouldn’t have time to properly reply and dispute the lies. Romney is slime.
Absolutely—once again the readers of this site are heads and shoulders above all the mass media. I've been reading the news all morning and haven't come across anything as intuitive and intelligent as the two posts on this string by this Freeper. Romney is showing his true colors—and they are an ugly combination of power-seeking hypocrisy masquerading under the guise of a successful businessman. His father was a senator for God's sake—do you think Romney stated from the bottom? As for Perry—he's a laconic guy from West Texas. The men don't talk a lot out there, and when they do it's because they have something to say. Perry isn't glib. Thank God.
He also caught in a Romney lie on camera!
Mitt Romney: [laughs] Rick, I don't think I've ever hired an illegal in my life and so I'm looking forward to finding your facts on that because that just

“I don't think I've ever hired an illegal in my life”
“Number two, we hired a lawn company”
Now if we can just go for the kill shot on his character and lying we will be in business.
I heard that line from Romney! I hope it gets replayed!
Perry handled himself well against the attacks, but I want to
see him pushing energy, energy, and jobs instead of getting
into it with Romney.
Just sayin’......
But they won't let it go to waste.
Earlier... bored Perry, can't stay awake -- needs to find his energy.
Knocks one out of the park -- mean old Perry, made Mitt look good.
Won't change what everyone saw.
You go after the one you must beat for the nomination. Rick Perry always goes for the jugular. I want him to keep punching Mittens.
Is she here legally? Millions of people live in other countries, most of them do it by choice.
Its absurd to think we have any responsibility to criminals.
The billions of dollars people like this cost American taxpayers is profane
The media ignored Perry (outside of roughing him up on race, religion and the border) until he picked that old scab (the other one) that hurts Romney. Those in the bag for Romney will cry out and the Left will love it because it hurts Obama's supposed opponent.
Hardly anyone was commenting on his Energy speech. But they'll be listening to Perry's Economic speech this Tuesday and perhaps reading his Energy policy plan to get the country working and energy independent.
IIRC, there were two different times that Romney had illegals working for him, per investigative reports.
Romney can only deny it by saying they were hired by the companies he hired. He can only claim he did not do the direct hiring of illegals.
I think we’re in business.
Romney royally “loses it” each time this comes up [2008 and 2010]. His skin is so thin — he can’t control his anger. It shows the voters what’s underneath that plastic demeanor, and it isn’t presidential.
The sad thing about Mexico is the country has abundant natural resources- they have everything they need to become a great country. Everything except people willing to stand up to the government and create a new country- beginning with a new constitution. Mexico had several revolutions in the past but none re-invented the government- simply changed leadership.
