Now I want to see how Herman can somehow lock in the 999 we're good.

I don't think Herman has to worry about locking in the 999 - consumers/taxpayers will do that for him. Right now people don't realize how much they're paying in taxes because it's built into the price of the goods and services they buy. If Congress starts talking about raising the 9% sales tax or the 9% income tax, people will notice. They may even realize that raising the 9% corporate tax is going to affect the price they pay at the register. I think pressure from taxpayers is what will keep Congress in check.

—You may hate it, but I consider it a moral imperative to feed the beast as little as possible,

and not taking advantage of all tax breaks possible is giving them more money and power to reduce your freedom.

It may cost me $500 to save $100 in taxes, but I’ve done things like that.—

HAHAHA! I’m worse. I buy almost ALL non-food items used from garage sales, auctions, estate sales, etc. Usually no sales tax. I have been reducing my spending as much as possible. It’s easier to voluntarily reduce your spending than it is to voluntarily reduce your (taxable) income, but I finally did the latter too.

I cut it (taxable) by ~$40,000 a year. I moved to a much lower income area and actually live better than I used to. So taking the standard deduction is a piece of cake now. I also just bought a tractor and we’ll be living almost exclusively off what we grow at our new property. This includes chicken/eggs, beef, and fruits and vegetables.

God designed us as gardeners and, although I am still a cubicle rat, we spend so much time with “rural” activities that I am just “naturally” losing weight as I lost weight in Seattle when I bicycle commuted.

you are already paying hidden taxes on everything you buy... i suggest reading the fair tax book by boortz and seeing that the withholding taxes will go away under the 9-9-9 plan and you will have more discretionary income.

used cars will not be taxed and i prefer used to over priced new personally.

9-9-9 is a step towards the fair tax which i believe will take the monies out of our representatives pockets and the power it generates.

teeman

plus a used home is not new so no tax on it.

—Yes, and if you buy an item USED...—

That has been my mantra the last few years. Pretty much everything I have is something I bought used. Garage sales, estate sales, Craigslist, etc.

Except for food...

Exactly, my family does the same thing. Heck, my cars are use as well...but they work, so why should I have bought a new one? This is where people miss the boat all the time.

Sounds like my plans in the works - bought the land, building a house, getting a tractor, going to deduct as much as I can creatively deduct as “farm expenses”.

Don’t forget to record some “income” from your farm by selling some eggs, vegetables, firewood, or some such,

then make sure to depreciate all your equipment out against your already lower income.

Yeah. I’m looking into the farm income stuff. I’m having a builder come by today to get an estimate on a 40x80 steel building with concrete floor.

I am blown away that you don’t need building permits around here!

concrete is really expensive these days

I think I’m going to use concrete pier footings and use pea gravel for the floor of my outbuildings, especially the greenhouse.

Also, don’t forget a rain capture system from your barn roof. A 40X80 roof can capture almost 2000 gals per inch of rain.

or the left is salivating at the prospect of a 9% sales tax that can be increased PLUS the current corporate and income taxes.

My building will include a long, thin floor drain down most of the middle, with a 25x28 band rehearsal/mancave room and a couple of other separate rooms. And a 12x25 woodworking room off to the side to be heated and dust controlled separatelyIt is also where I think there is a better than 50% probability some of my adult children will live for a while when the SHTF.

It really needs a concrete floor so I’m forking it over. I have been hearing $80 a yard in my neck of the woods.

Oh, and the rain capture is a big deal. In this area we can get massive downpours that last an hour or more. It’s why I have really good ditches on the driveway when it comes up the hill from the valley.

I’m looking at building a system of these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intermediate_bulk_container) for rain capture. They hold 275 gal, can stack 3 high full.
