A leading Southern Baptist theologian spoke out Monday

........In a posting today on his influential blog, the theologian, R. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., spelled out why traditional Christians do not consider the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to be simply a different denomination of Christianity.
“Mormonism rejects the Bible as the sole and sufficient authority for the faith, and insists that The Book of Mormon and other authoritative Latter-Day Saints writings constitute God’s final revelation,” he wrote. “By its very nature, Mormonism borrows Christian themes, personalities, and narratives. Nevertheless, it rejects what orthodox Christianity affirms and it affirms what orthodox Christianity rejects.”
Dr. Mohler conspicuously did not use the term “cult” and he said: “It is neither slander nor condescension to state clearly that Mormonism is not Christianity.”

“Competence for public office is also an important Christian concern, as is made clear in Romans 13,” he wrote, even citing a legendary statement, attributed to Martin Luther, “that he would rather be ruled by a competent Turk (Muslim) than an incompetent Christian.”

I’m not going to do an analysis of Mormonism vs. Christianity
People applauding him for not stepping in to the argument but examine that statement and you will find that Mr. Cain is, in effect, saying that Mormons are not Christian.
It is what it is. It's about time orthodox Christianity return to the public square. There are too many calling themselves Christians without having a relationship with the Christ that was freely given to us.
I'm will not step into any of this. I already know what I know on this. So I'll just keep my lips zipped.
I could care less whether or not fellow Christians consider Mormons to be “Christian”. I’ve never met one whom I didn’t like and trust.
There is only one religion whose leaders I distrust greatly.

Well, I am LDS, and I have read the Bible well over a dozen times. I believe it to be the inspired word of God through ancient prophets. What’s so Non-Christian about that?
So Lets see .... according to this bright Theologian .... if Christ chose to call another prophet before his second-coming ... than Christ himself and all the resultant believers would be Non-Christian?
Brilliant! Especially when Revelations prophesies future prophets before the second coming of Christ. This Nut-Job sets up a condition where Christ himself will be a Non-Christian because he will fulfill his prophesies to call future prophets!

I’ll leave the judging to God, I will state that some of the nicest people I have ever met were Mormans.
Mormonism passed long long ago from a cult to one of the worlds religions. Granted not Christian, but I do not hold it against Mitt Romney, Glenn Beck, or anyone I ever met who is Mormon anymore than I condemn a close Japanese friend of ours that has been Shinto from the day she was born, or even the few Sikhs that live in our neighborhood.
Romney, Cain, Bachmann have all gave very good comments on the issue, but Perry seems to be in hiding.
Perry for the good of the Party needs to be the one leading this right now and put this to rest once and for all. If not, the Democrats will gain Catholic voters, and any Jewish vote we gained because of Obama will be lost.
Maybe you should consider Romney's disgusting and blatant hypocrisy against his own profesed religion rather than whether the "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" fits your particular narrow definition of Christianity.
BTW, Moeller is wrong. Mormon theology does NOT state their documents are the last - they believe the head of their church is a prophet - and that God may reveal further prophecy as time goes on.
I'm not saying they're right - but at least let's get our slurs accurate.

As to whether Luther actually said such a thing - or if did, that it wasn’t a good deal more hyperbolic than serious - one is best to read him in context on the subject of muslim government. The treatise, from the year 1529, is entitled, “On War against the Turks” (Vom Kriege wider den Tuerken). It can be found in the American Edition of Luther’s Works, volume 46, pp. 161-205.
That he would prefer to be ruled by a competent and ethical unbeliever rather than an incompetent and unethical Christian is indeed true.
You say you read the bible well over a dozen times.
Let me ask, did you pause when you read this?
Gal 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
Gal 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
For somebody who claims to have read the Bible so often, you’d think you could get the name of the last book right.
And not to belabor the point, but the book of Revelation doesn’t say a thing about “new” prophets, let alone predicting them.
Sorry, but your “prophet” fails on many points way before one gets to the book of Revelation. You might can get the cultural Christians to buy into Mormonism being another denomination, but those that take their Christian faith seriously know Mormonism is as Christian as islam is “peaceful.”

I'm not saying I would never pull the lever for Romney (even though I don't like him) but Mormons are NOT orthodox.
I am not LDS but I know many who are and I understand Mormonism at least as well as some of them. Christianity holds that our salvation depends on Christ and Christ alone. Mormonism adds a whole lot to that. LDS reject the doctrines of the Trinity, Hell, Heaven, Creation, and Eschatology as held by orthodox Christianity. There are many religions that accept Christ and the Bible but are not Christian and yes Islam is one of those.
LDS also holds it is the one true church of Christ. Perhaps you would like to explain what that is?
