I can tell you what it was like in a simulator at night, in heaving seas and low-vis... difficult. crashed the thing into the side of the ship and into the sea. Of course, I’m not a pilot and the control laws were half-baked at the time, but it sure was fun!

- Easier to "stop then land" than "land then stop"
- landing can be amidships where vertical movement of the deck is minimised
