As the girls dig in to their math problems, Farrier contemplates the Republican presidential candidates who are vying for the support of homeschoolers like her.
"They're wooing us. It feels really good," she says.

good for them.
This homeschooling family supports Cain!
Anyway, it's dead wrong. Homeschoolers are too smart to back republicans.
They might, however, support the Tea Party.
Bump for later read.
He's a bigot and hates black people! You racist, you!
(I saw it on firedoglake.com, so it must be true...)
We don’t have a candidate yet. I still need to find someone who’s not a goof to support for Town Council next month ...
Already, I know home school families who are organized enough to trade areas of expertise-- one mother teaches math, another science, another history, etc. But mostly, they teach small groups of various ages who are blood relatives.
My sister-in-law's daughters were such beneficiaries. Their oldest is now on track to graduate with a four year degree in two and a half years. Try that with your average public school.
If this trend continues, we could eventually see the revival of a model which served our country well for nearly two centuries:
P.S. Great choice!
The kids coming through the private schools and the home schoolers are the only hope we have for the future. Americans are not willing, as a whole, to completely destroy the current mess that is the public school system. I think this is mostly because they don’t really know what to do with it.
But here is the good part- it’s easier than you think. One of the worst things we allowed to happen was to allow the “experts” to tell us that we didn’t know how to educate our kids, and how much we “needed” them.
Isn’t it funny how much smarter the generations were before the “experts”?
V-man, we have the same kind of organization with our homeschool, except we trade expertise with other homeshooling families (this is popular here in NC). For example, my wife, who was a biological research scientist B.C. (before children), teaches science and math to several homeschoolers in our group.
Homeschooling is now expanding exponentially. We (my siblings and I) homeschooled our families. Now the older of those kids are homeschooling another generation and imparting conservative values to them.
My sister remarked that originally there were 2 conservatives in her household (husband and herself)...now there are 8 more voting conservatives (if you count kids and their spouses), and they are raising/homeschooling another generation (7 so far of school age) of conservatives. She contends she’s done her part for the conservative movement :)
I homeschooled our son. I did not homeschool our older daughter; she attended a performing arts magnet where she studied cello. However she is now homeschooling her 2 children. Our son’s wife just had a baby boy and our son is already discussing the things he plans to teach him.
Homeschooled 1 myself, 2 grandbabies homeschooled so far with another waiting in the wings.
It’s more than an education, it’s a lifestyle and I am sorry we did not discover it sooner. Homeschool is freedom!
As opposed to the Red Diaper Babies produced in the various Marxist-promoting public schools...many of whom end up being liberal zombies for the rest of their lives...
They are all priced competitively to your average state university. Just a few examples:
Insofar as I am aware none of them look down their nose at home schooled kids and all welcome them. Further, they all have good placement records in part because the average left wing loser will never set foot in them.
