I find it hard to believe that the total number of gun owners in the country is decreasing. Many women are now owning guns. What seems more likely is that a great many more people are reluctant to let strangers know that they own guns.

Title should read: Gun crime declines BECAUSE of Increased Gun Sales

Perhaps the apparently liberal headline writer for this article should try this on for size:

“Gun crime continues to decrease, possibly due to increase in gun sales”

“While there are more people with concealed carry permits and there has been an increase in gun sales, the research indicates overwhelmingly that the same people are simply buying more guns and that there has been a sharp decline in the percentage of Americans who own guns,” Brady Campaign spokesperson Caroline Brewer said.

Present your "research" and cut the bullsh1t, Ms. Brewer.

“In spite”? Had gun crime gone up you can bet your bottom dollar that the headline would have been “due to.”

It may also be that young people, that is, middle class young people, are less involved with hunting and shooting sports in general. Some of it is generational and some of it is the result of anti-gun pressure from liberal pressure groups like the teacher's unions. Kids have been trained since pre-school that even drawing a picture of a gun is evil and can get you punished. Heck, other than e-bay, when was the last time you saw a cap gun or a BB gun for sale?

All we are seeing is the result of years and years of propaganda and perhaps a failure of our generation to train and educate and push back against the nannystaters.

Every generation of Americans should understand the skills, the value and the responsibilities for owning and using firearms.

When the good guys have guns, too, the bad guys reconsider their actions.

That stat has been shown in many locations where citizens are allowed to carry.

Notice how many gun related crimes happen in — ‘gun free’ zones.

Duh!

More Guns, Less Crime- I think that was a book title, right?

.....“California is in a category of its own as far as gun control laws there,” Parsons said. “New York is a little bit better, but they still have discretionary concealed carry laws.”......

She has this BACKWARDS. A spokesperson for the NRA should know better!

As bad as California is on guns, it is essentially “right to own” on most handguns. They have a list of “banned” handguns and long guns and the state mandated background check takes about three weeks for handguns. A safety class is required also.

New York is essentially discretionary on handgun ownership (not just carry). New York City is discretionary on ALL firearms ownership—take a look at the NYC police website.

The number of gun owners has been estimated at 80 to 90 million for several decades and I think the numbers are incorrect.

Based on my experience and the interest expressed by many women in owning guns I suspect that the real numbers are 100 to 110 million.

2009 14 million sold by FFLs
2010 12.8 million sold by FFLs
2011 Estimated sales are 15 million by end of the year.

The numbers are still going up and if it racks the way I think it will there will have been very close to 60 million guns sold during the adminisration of Sparky. That is going to be a lot of new shooters. This has occurred during a heavy recession and it may take a jump after the economy turns around.

I know I have my eye out for a new one, a rolling block, and I will be getting out my credit card when the economy begins to show signs of life.

I recently saw a sign on a guy’s lawn that read:

My Next Door Neighbor on
The Left wants to BAN all GUNS!

Their house is NOT ARMED!

Out of Respect for their opinions
I promise NOT to use MY GUNS
To PROTECT THEM.
