Have you noticed that one of the Obama administration's most successful programs is also its most "socialist" initiative?

OK, the bailout of General Motors and Chrysler was not socialist in the classic sense: The government was not looking to hold on to the companies over the long run. Their turnaround was accomplished in significant part by tough, capitalist management steps.

GM announced that its second-quarter profits had nearly doubled, to $2.5 billion. To put that in context, in April 2010, GM reported losses of $4.3 billion. Revenue at GM rose 19 percent, to $39.4 billion. What? Is he saying they lost $4.3 billion AND made $39.4billion?

Hey EJ, you lisping pansy. GM and Chrysler didn’t pay all the money back. As some warranty holders of GM cars are finding out, there is a difference between New GM and Old GM. Old GM still owes money, plus New GM used new Tarp funds to pay their end of the debt. On top of that, the Volt technology is now going to our close friends in China.

I often wonder if this dim bulb EJ actually writes any genuine articles or if he just opens the envelopes he gets from the WH and submits the letter within to his publisher.

In the jargon of finance, revenue = sales
not profit.

I have been a GM man my whole life but I will never buy another GM car because of the Obama confiscation (theft) of shareholder equity and other obligations so he could hand over billions in wealth to the UAW.

As if that wasn’t enough, the $5,000 bonus (handout) to UAW members is the icing on the cake.

The only exception to that I would make is if I suddenly had a gajillion dollars, I would buy a 1967 Corvette Convertable, 427 cu.in. 435 hp engine, black on blank on black.

Otherwise, 1,000% agree!!!

Same here. I don't care whether this propagandist classifies it as national socialism, soviet socialism, or some new invention in between the two evils. I am boycotting GM forever and will not purchase anything they make, whether new or used. Ever. That corrupt company is dead to me.

“State capitalism” = crony capitalism. Obastard arbitrarily decided that the bond holders would get practically nothing and then turned around a GAVE the UAW half ownership in the company.

Amen. This guy is so predictable - you know that he will never, ever, let the facts get in the way of his unwavering support of Obama. To make it even worse, the Washington Post has already groomed EJ the Second - Ezra Klein, the founder of JournoList. They now have EJ's Mini-Me spouting his own party line column straight from Team Obama's marching orders.

GM isn’t back.

Its doors are currently open, because of a large government infusion of cash and forced debt forgiveness (read rape of the bond holders).

Smells a lot like Solendra. I wonder what the government’s projected date of bankruptcy is for GM.
