yep.
Well, actually it’s about where the student resides physically. If you live in Virginia for a certain period, you pay in-state tuition in Va.
What I’m finding is that most Perry supporters here on FR are also amnesty supporters.
Does anybody really think a school will follow up on the dream act student seeking citizenship and if not what will do about it, nothing.
"Arguing for in-state tuition for illegal aliens without making plain that the real objective is legal status is incomplete at best, dishonest at worst. "
The same argument can be made that if an ILLEGAL alien robbed a bank and he and his family lived a lavish lifestyle with his ill-gotten gains it would be wrong to take his assets from him because, after all, the only home his kids have known is the one the robber paid for with stolen loot.
ILLEGAL is ILLEGAL.
“theyre still illegal aliens and so its illegal to hire them.”
Maybe that is why Texas colleges have students that have taken advantage of the reduced in-state rates to the tune of 1% of total enrollment?
Sounds like the illegals are stampeding the border to pay $40,000 to $80,000 for this government hand out.
We have massive unemployment, we need jobs, we need business regulation reform, we need to stop the EPA and suddenly it's "Oh look! A shiny object" and everyone goes off chasing a 10 year old law.
America: A Nation Of Scofflaws
Federal Law Title 8, Chapter 14, Sec. 1623 states:an alien who is not lawfully present in the United States shall not be eligible on the basis of residence within a State... for any postsecondary education benefit unless a citizen or national of the United States is eligible for such a benefit.
Texas has tougher restrictions on in-state illegal aliens than 38 other states. Only 4 states deny in-state tuition; 8, like Texas, actually have some guidelines.
I guess I don’t understand the furor over Texas having tougher limits on in-state tuition for illegals than 38 other states in the union.
Then again, I understand little about FR these days.
Legalized certain illegal aliens brought here before their 16th birthday.
Progressives killing America one law at a time.
Propose a law that says illegals are free to work in this country but only if the employer pays something like a 30% surcharge on every illegal salary that goes directly to the states. We’ll see if businesses really need to get the work done that Americans don’t want to do, or whether they just want to get the work done that Americans won’t do for low wages.
Its also about fairness. Kids who’s parents are here legally, pay tuition based on their parents actions - if the parents are modestly successful, the kids pay more for school since they don’t qualify for grants.
Perry wants to say kids of illegals shouldn’t be held to the same standard of their parents actions - in fact he outright says parents actions should not affect the cost of higher education.
That’s not how the system works for kids here legally.
Ping!
Rick Perry necessarily had to whore himself out to a race to win Texas. America is bigger than a race, throwing his fellow non-Hispanic citizenry under the bus to pander to a race is not going to fly for a presidential position. I view his picture under the La Raza banner as being equivalent to posing under a KKK banner.
Rick Perrys problem is the fact that 81 percent of the jobs created since 2007 in Texas have gone to immigrants who arrived here since 2007. Ninety-three percent of these immigrants arent citizens and an estimated 50 percent are illegal aliens while the percentage of Americans in Texas holding jobs fell from 71 percent in 2007 to 67 percent in 2011.

Rick Perry is against E-Verify, a simple phone call that reserves the jobs for Americans and LEGAL aliens.
E-Verify wouldnt amount to a hill of beans for Texas

Rick Perry is forcing Americans to pay for the continued education of foreigners that most Americans dont even want in our country.
Here’s a thought. Require the students to start the citizenship process, and start taking the required classes for it, if they want to get the in-state tuition rates. If they’ve been here all their lives, and have no connection to their parents’ ‘home country’, this is, for all intents and purposes THEIR country, and they should become citizens. It wasn’t THEY who broke the law, but their parents; they had no choice in the matter. So get them going on their own citizenship, and then they can sponsor their parents. If they can get a college education, it’s more likely that they will work hard bring their whole family out of poverty into a better life.
