Facebook has admitted that it has been watching the web pages its members visit – even when they have logged out. In its latest privacy blunder, the social networking site was forced to confirm that it has been constantly tracking its 750million users, even when they are using other sites. A number of our friends are collaborating using Tonido (http://www.tonido.com) as a social networking tool. No cloud, no tracking, all traffic encrypted. It’s not a perfect system but it’s free and pretty easy to set up. Not for thousands but great for groups of a handful to hundreds.

I agree, but the trail leads from any FReeper using Facebook back to this site when they visit (and maybe then to us).

I understand the benefits of technology, but unfortunately the government does, too; we are forging the manacles for them. It is incredible how people are willing to stand for this crap.

Never did Facebook, Twitter, Linkdin (whatever...)

They smack of personal invasion.

As someone else said, "I have enough 'friends' as it is."

Now, I'm extra glad that my instinct was right.

I heard a story about a young teen (using FB) who planned her birthday party. She invited a few friends (in the traditional sense of the word) but news of her party got out to her "friends" (in the FB sense.) "I just pooped. Are you going to Jane's BD party?"
Jane was devestated because her "friends" now know they're not all that much her friends.

When you registered
You knew we'd be such little turds
But when we did
We didn't mean to track you down

Now you're on Facebook
You tell me you'd rather not share your hooks
We're sorry, baby
We didn't mean to track you down

Woah, baby, we didn't mean to track you down

You read us wrong
We wasn't tryin' to come on so strong
Not like you think
We didn't mean to track you down

I know you
Expected some pri-va-cy
When we refused
We thought you wouldn't dis-a-gree

We're sorry, baby
We didn't mean to track you down

Told you this, clearly
In the fine print on page three
(fine print on page three...)
Oh, we didn't mean to track you down

Woah, baby, we didn't mean to track you down
Woah, baby, we didn't mean to track you down
....We didn't mean to track you down
....We didn't mean to track you down

Make facebook work folks. Get an email that expires in 10 minutes and don’t use your real name. It still works.

I have a FB account, mostly to muse about various things, and to keep in touch with old friends that I wouldn't mind hearing from once in a while, but live too far away to really see...or...people from high school and college that I considered acquaintances but not worth going out of my way to talk to.

Just like Onstar didn’t mean to track you. If you believe that, you need to have your head examined.
