At one time, I would of thought this was OBL rhetoric.

Now, I see my folly.

Well, pilgrim....I DO have a heart and I fully support the fact that we DO NOT reward criminal behavior.

What part of ILLEGAL ALIEN do these people fail to grasp?

Good Ol' Ruben - playing the "divide by race" card.

Since when did hispanics become more important than Americans?

And as we know Ruben Naverette speaks for all or most latinos.

Thats what all the spokemen for the Democrat plantation would have us believe.

Blacks aren’t the only people stuck on the Democrat Plantation.

I want to help. No, really. I want more Latinos to become comfortable with the idea of voting for a Republican — as long as it's the right kind of Republican.

Latinos are the new blacks. They belong to the democrats. The republicans are the opposition party. If the Pubs and the Tea Party can't patch together a coalition that will win the WH and and retain some control of Congress on their terms then the US as we know it will be remade in the image and likeness of a banana republic.

Wait until they hear Marco Rubio.

I am damn sick of seeing these know-nothing jerkoff media/pundit types telling us we are racist.

Pretend journalists keep saying they LISTEN and report. Not one single Republican candidate has said “keep those Latinos out.”. Not one. ALL of them have said, “Let’s have legal immigration.”.

MOST of them have been, at least via lip service, against ILLEGAL immigration. This is the new picture of hate—to oppose CRIME?

I SUGGEST we steal some laptops from these journalists, and then give them to children. When the journalists protest, we accuse them of being against better technology for kid’s education.

He’s right. Let’s discuss the issue of immigration in all its aspects - controlling illegal immigration and also controlling legal immigration. No more “political refugee” Muslims (most of whom are unwelcome in their home countries because they were involved with militant Islamic groups or movements), for example, who come here and go directly on state aid and no more “family reunification” that enables these same people to bring family members here and, again, put them right on welfare or even SSI.

Let’s work out a short-term visa program for people from neighboring countries (who share much of our history and our values) to come here and work at jobs that our aging population can no longer fill. Let’s figure out how to sort out the huge accumulation of illegal immigrants (illegal simply because there wasn’t any provision for them to come here legally and then return home) without destroying the economies of places in which they are concentrated, and also without losing their skills and capacities.

Let’s discuss the way Obama has simply issued executive orders to readjust the legal immigrant mix so that we get more people from “traditionally Muslim countries,” to the detriment of people from places like Canada and South America, who just want to come here to work, not to impose Islamic law on us.

But instead, discussions of immigration have turned into nothing but anti-Hispanic hate fests that would make the Know Nothings blush. Nobody really wants to discuss immigration with a view to making any changes in it, but instead to spew invective. And this is what the Dems are taking advantage of, not only to make the GOP look bad with a large potential voting block, but to destroy GOP candidates who actually want to work on the issue.

I got sick of people here referring to “Jorge” Bush, ironically just because he actually had enough courage to make suggestions about dealing with immigration, and now I have seen them referring to “Ricardo” Perry. But of course, none of these same critics have any realistic or positive solutions of their own, which is one of the reasons I have thought several of them (the more toxic, hate-filled ones) are probably secret Dem operatives.

As long as Republicans let the left define the terms of the debate, they will lose.

Does one single Republican have the brains and the balls to say the truth? That this is NOT about immigration. This is about illegal aliens. Immigration is legal entry into the US.

Nah, Republicans can’t win the debate because they are timid and stupid.

The trouble is that most Republicans don't know how to make a good pitch. They don't even see the mistakes they're making. For them, the immigration issue is about right and wrong.

Well, DUH, you clueless racist.

That is the essence of the problem - it IS about right and wrong, legal and illegal. Please, Reuben, you moron, tell us what other laws Latinos should be exempted from.

The Republicans went from a Latino appeaser who got 40% of the Latino vote (Bush 2004) to an all-out extreme Latino appeaser who got only 29% of that vote (McCain 2008). How does Reuben square this math?

The track record seems to be that the more you appease the Latinos and the closer you get to amnesty and open borders, the LESS of their vote you will get.

In actuality, that decline in Latino votes for the Republican candidate only amounted to 800,000 voters, many of them in already Republican lost causes like California.

On the other hand, McCain lost many more votes, many more campaign volunteers, and many more small donors because of his pro-illegal immigration stand.

Every poll taken on the subject shows that 65-80% of Americans want illegal immigration stopped and illegal aliens not be rewarded with benefits, amnesty, or citizenship.

That vast majority is what the Republicans should be pandering to, not an inconsequential 800,000 votes in already lost blue states.

“Navarrette: Harsh immigration rhetoric not helpful to GOP hopefuls”

I’m still waiting for some harsh immigration behavior!

Might be helpful for the whole country.
