Republican Gay Rights Group Demands Apology from Santorum
CBS News ^ | September 23, 2011 | Lucy Madison

Posted on 09/23/2011 10:01:23 AM PDT by lbryce

Members of the conservative gay rights group GOProud are demanding an apology from Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum for what they call his disrespectful comments directed at a gay soldier in Thursday night's GOP presidential debate.

"Tonight, Rick Santorum disrespected our brave men and women in uniform, and he owes Stephen Hill, the gay soldier who asked him the question about Don't Ask, Don't Tell repeal, an immediate apology," said GOProud's Christopher Barron and Jimmy LaSalvia in a Thursday night press release.

During the Fox News/Google-sponsored debate, which took place in Orlando, Florida, a gay soldier deployed in Iraq asked the candidates if they would take measures to "circumvent" the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," if elected president.

Some audience members audibly booed the soldier -- a moment the GOP candidates on stage chose to ignore.

GOProud also noted that Santorum, who answered the question, declined to thank the soldier for his service, and called the repeal of DADT "social experimentation" - and "tragic."

"I would say any type of sexual activity has absolutely no place in the military," Santorum responded. "And the fact that they're making a point to include it as a provision within the military that we are going to recognize a group of people and give them a special privilege to -- and removing 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' I think tries to inject social policy into the military. And the military's job is to do one thing, and that is to defend our country."

I don't know about the Republican thing, but unless the soldiers have changed that much since I was serving in combat units, I don't think the "outed" soldier who called in yesterday is going to be the most popular guy in his unit. Just a guess, but perhaps in this age of metro-sexuality the straight guys won't mind. But I doubt that.

Homosexuality is not conducive to good unit moral and performance. Of course that is just my opinion and I am certain many others. The Generals and Admirals have to go along to get along with the CINC so we won't hear much from them, unless they are ready to put in their papers and retire.

Gays can be conservative (and Christian) as much as ...

Their choice to identify themselves that way does not make it so.

A "pro-choice" Catholic has disqualified themselves from being a Catholic whether they choose to accept it or not.

There's one thing about Rick Santorum of which I'm pretty certain. No matter who whines at him, or how politically expedient it may be to do so, Santorum will not apologize to anyone for what he sincerely believes.

GOProud is going to find out that the majority of conservatives happen to agree with Santorum. That means that GOProud can never lay claim to being a conservative organization, and they hate that. Tough!

it pisses me off that anyone thnks a gay soldier who served in the military deserves respect.

If he helped kill jihadists, then he has my respect.

Man, I have you squirming like a worm

Where did I even mention DADT? You are trying to change the subject - but I won’t let you.

Stay focused here. The subject is Stephen Hill - a gay soldier. You keep saying you would not boo him.

We naturally take that to mean you support him.

But in an effort to let you save face - I’ll leave you this opportunity to say something - anything - negative or critical about Stephen Hill - a gay soldier.

Maybe how - if it were up to you - you would not want him in your barracks or something like that.

Go head. Try and salvage your credibility. Try and disprove you are pro-gay.

Is "Yes, damn right I want to throw PFC Steve out of the military because he has anal sex with other men!" a stand that will win the November 2012 election? I confess I do not know.

Your answer is how many Americans support the homosexual agenda? Very few.

A homosexual serving in the military isn't wrong. An OPENLY homosexual is. There has always been homosexuals in the military. However, they did not broadcast it because they honestly wanted to serve and NOT engage in social experimentation. What is going on now is all about forcing society to accept them as normal. They are not.

Trisham is part of the Homosexual Agenda ping list. I don’t know what your problem is but trisham does not support the homosexual agenda.

So if a pedophile serves their country in time of war, they get a pass?

Yeah, I know about “consenting adults,” and all that means to me is you’ve chosen to jettison one moral principle and retain another that doesn’t get you any grief from others hobbyists like yourself.

Certain members of the American military, like certain members of Congress, occasionally require boo-ing. Like John Kerry, like the hundreds of so-called Winter Soldiers who lied about atrocities. Like gays who deliberately lied about their sexual orientation. Like congressasses who legitimized such lying in order to allow gays to serve.,

You really believe that gays serving in the military have no detrimental effects, don’t you?

God, if I said what I truly think about you and your kind, Jim Rob would boot me outta here so fast, I wouldn’t land till next Thursday.

My tagline applies to you!

They booed a homosexual not a soldier. If all he REALLY wanted to do was serve his country, his chosen lifestyle would not be trumpeted. His agenda was booed.

This is why GOProud exists. To attempt to silence Republicans who stand up for morality.

Like I said, I was opposed to the repeal of DADT.

However, when it is revealed that a person who served in the military is gay, I am not going to Boo him.

And I would be opposed to scrapping the names of the gay Members of our Armed Services from the Vietnam Memorial Wall.

Do you believe that we should scrape the names of the gay Members of our Armed Services from the Vietnam Memorial Wall?

Colture is a member serving on it’s board as the Queen of Fabulous or sluts I forget which

I disagree with Ann Coulter about a growing list of things that matter to me. However, calling her those kinds of names is out of line.
