New book reveals RomneyCare was model for health care reform [Obamacare] Read more:

Ron Suskind’s controversial new book, “Confidence Men” reveals how President Barack Obama came to embrace “RomneyCare” as a model of reform.

For example, it reveals that in a memo to President Obama concerning potential health care reform options, White House chief health care official Nancy-Ann DeParle,

directed Obama’s attention to the only working model for reform in the country: Massachusetts, whose health care overhaul bill passed in 2005 under a brokered deal between then-governor Mitt Romney and the state’s Democratic legislature.” (p. 262)

Suskind goes on to demonstrate that President Obama, who previously had not embraced the individual mandate, was impressed by RomneyCare’s impact in Massachusetts:

“… the centerpiece of that program, the individual mandate, was something Obama had drawn up short of endorsing during the campaign, much to the ire of Hillary Clinton, who called him ‘all talk, no action’ on health care. Now, DeParle, in her memo, stressed that Obama should embrace a plan much like that in Massachusetts, driven by the teeth of a mandate, where individuals would be fined for not having health insurance. Obama, never much for the mandate, was concerned about legal challenges to it but was impressed by DeParle’s coverage numbers. Without the mandate, the still-sketchy Obama plan would leave twenty-eight million Americans uninsured; with the mandate, the estimates of the number left uninsured were well below ten million.” (p. 262-263)

It’s no big secret that Obama looked to RomneyCare to craft his plan. But this book may also serve to remind everyone of what is obviously an inconvenient truth for Mitt Romney.

The system put in place by Mitt Romney was the model for Obamacare & Rick Perry was a supporter of Hillary care & was Al Gore’s campaign manager when Gore ran for president.

Rick Perry was not Al Gore’s campaign manager or chairman. He endorsed Gore. He did not chair his campaign.

In Romney’s defense I’ll say that isn’t the STATES where we want health care to stay?...not the federal govt....I see no reason why a properly elected state legislature can’t establish whatever they want for health care...

Well Ray Sullivan is obviously playing damage control because it is on the record that Rick Perry was Al Gore's Texas campaign manager. Link to report. At any rate the fact that Perry endorsed Gore is bad enough. Whether or not he was the Texas campaign chairman.

Rick Perry was Al Gores Texas Campaign Manager in 1988, back when Al was sane and center right on most cultural, defense and fiscal issues and center left on some fiscal a few as well.

I was on AL Gores campaign for a University in the Bay Area for that same election as Rick Perry and Al Gore was not a bad guy 25 years ago.

Al has not always been the insane weirdo that he is now. Eight years in the Clinton White house and then losing in 2000 has turned him into a stark raving lunatic.

Seriously

Then again, he may have just had us all fooled, but a lot of good people crossed over to support Gore in 88.

Looks like someone is running interference for the Perry campaign here. Gore was already quite far to the left on the environment back then. Furthermore much of Gore’s alleged center right views was classic political campaigning just as Clinton ALSO later ran as a center right candidate but abandoned those positions as soon as he was in office. Perry is just continuing the long tradition of leftist infiltration & posing as a center right candidate. Few people really believed that Gore was a true conservative back then & neither do a whole lot of people truly believe that Perry is a true conservative either. His tanking popularity is testament to that.
