This should be dropped immediately because it is a symbol of terrorism ... and because those people are so arrogant and uppity!
Shouldn’t it be U of K or, at least, UK?
Yea, right. And we are concerned about this cartoon character for what? This loon really needs to get a life and start complaining about things he can change now because he is never going to change anything about history.
Just another arrogant and uppity narcisit who thinks todays standards are retrogradable to what life was lived by 150 years ago.
It's this kind of backward thinking that spurs the disciples of allah to look for revenge over some slight that happened hundreds of years ago.
It's like the bruthas being "mentally hurt" because of slavery and because of the Confederate Flag.
It was 150 years ago, get over it.
Obviously they didn’t rid the landscape of whiny little pricks.
They can’t even get rid of the right mascot in their home state;

Rawk, chawk, politically-correct Hawk.
Now that’s got a real ring to it.
Just a bunch of retro-Confederates who are angry that most of the people in Kansas wanted to form a Free state.
I starting to think we should deport American Citizens...?
And you grew up to be a politician and a dinglebob. What a surprise! Imagine what you might have been if you'd heard about physics, calculus, or Shakespeare ...
I don’t think the body count stacks up to Lawrence, which was also burned to the ground.
And how come the Missourians coveniently forgot Centralia and Bloody bill Anderson, Baxter Springs, and all the scalped bodies the Bushwhackers left behind?
I don’t believe that large birds ever attacked Missouri.
KU football is enough of a punishment for Kansas.
For anyone who likes to shake their head and tsk-tsk upon hearing of the endless atrocities and retributions we see among various sects in Iraq or elsewhere in the middle east, and who deludes themselves that these things could not happen here, study of this dismal chapter of American history should be a requirement. Both sides in the border war between Quantrill’s men and the Jayhawkers perpetrated atrocity after atrocity. Families were burned alive inside their homes, after which the raiders would ride back across the border (not forgetting to round up the victims’ cattle and other livestock to take back with them), and then of course sit piously in church the next Sunday, believing they had done God’s work. The other side would then, of course, retaliate quickly with an equally appalling atrocity, all culminating the in the infamous Lawrence, Kansas massacre perpetrated by Quantrill and his raiders.
A couple of good books about this sorry chapter in American history are reviewed here: http://www.historynet.com/book-review-the-devil-knows-how-to-ride-and-quantrills-war-edward-e-leslieduane-schultz-cwt.htm
It’s about time someone did something about this. 2 of my relatives were yanked out of their beds in the middle of the night and shot to death against the chimney of their farmhouse by the Jayhawkers during the Border Wars (which preceded the Civil War and extended afterwards). Their house was burned and the mother of the family was marched off to St. Louis as a POW. All this because the family would not tell where an older brother had gone (to join the CSA army.) My great grandmother remembered to her dying day seeing the burnt out house and the remnants of blood still on the chimney.
Those of you who are sneering at this resolution should probably read up on the Border War. As a start, see General Order No. 11 and investigate the motivation for the Lawrence Raid.
It was a long time ago, but if you take a look at Google Earth, examining the road net in the area covered by General Order No. 11, you can see that it is still sparser than that in surrounding areas. The wounds of the Federal ethnic cleansing have lasted a long time.
It is a bad idea to ignore the lessons of history.
Just change MU’s mascot to the “Bushwhackers”!
Huh, who is still around whose business or home was destroyed by Cantrell and Co.?
Fess up Osceola, you're merely rooting for MU and can't stand any more losses to KU!
Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
When KU and Missouri play each other in football or basketball, it is not at all a ‘friendly’ rivalry (think Missouri fans throwing batteries at KU players).
These people still pretty much hate each other. I am a transplanted Kansan myself; and, I had never read much about this era in history books...but it is interesting. Think all of the animosity that led to the civil war, with none of the gentlemanly rules of war.
Present day, Lawrence aspires to be more liberal than Madison...and like most liberals have no sense of history...so they just hate Missouri because they are told to, without really knowing why.
For better historical accuracy, KU should change their nickname to the Redlegs and Missouri should change their name to the Quantrill’s. The Outlaw Josey Wales give a good glimpse of what went on during the Civil War. Like all Civil wars, bad things happened on both sides and nobody’s hands were clean by the end of the war.
BTW - I was born in KC, MO.
