Perry: Wrong then or wrong now
September 14, 2011 | Vanity

Many supporters of Gov. Perry have come to his defense over this Gardasil matter. The arguments are: (1) Gardasil should have been mandatory with the "opt-out" provision; (2) No big deal because the Texas legislature killed the Executive Order; or (3) as Perry says today, he made a mistake, should have made it "opt-in." Now comes word that Perry's top donor was the Republican Governors Association and that Merck began donating to RGA when Perry became its head.

Corporate Crony Capitalism is a persistent and growing concern. Especially as opposed to the tactics employed by President Obama.

As for Gov. Palin, she certainly didn’t come across this concept on the fly. She won and defeated a republican crony incumbent governor to become the governor of Alaska. She has an extensive resume in countering it.

Good point, but can we find a candidate pure enough to pass the propaganda campaign of the Communists who have mastered it like no one else? (That is the Communists only strength.) This particular issue, considering ObamaCare, is in my opinion unlikely to be used by them, but then there will be proxy attackers, so we really can’t be sure. The voting public thinks nothing of contradictions.

(I’m not a Perrytista, preferring a couple of others, like many here, but I’d settle on him rather than on Mitt or Bachmann.)

I don’t think Perry engaged in crony capitalism. I think he was tryin to protect his citizens, and I also think he went about it the wrong way, which he admits. The Texas legislature stopped his EO anyhow, so I guess that’s fine except for the women who may get HPV by not being vaccinated.

I also have noticed Palin hasn’t offered any proof to her smear of Perry. It’s been two nights now. Where is Sarah?

Actually, I notice she hasn’t been on TV or been heard from since her appearance on Greta Monday night. Not even on her FB page, right?

If she has the goods on Perry, shouldn’t she be following up on her smear?

Seatbelts save lives, eating broccoli instead of big mack’s saves lives, exercising an hour a day saves lives, not smoking saves lives, etc etc etc...... do you want the government mandating all that? If not, why not? If you do, then someone lied to you when they told you you were a conservative.

Fear not; I was a conservative from the day I first read Solzhenitsyn's The Gulag Archipelago and that was back in the early '70s. Nothing infuriates me more than the idea of some do-gooder with a government gun pointed at my head trying to tell me what I have to put into my body "for my own good."

I don’t support gov’t mandates of ANY vaccine, including the one in question here. They are mandated all the time to enter school, etc. I don’t even get flu shots.

Reagan supported things I didn’t like, like no fault divorce in California. Like amnesty. Like tax increase trade offs for future spending cuts.

He learned from some of it. It is those who won’t learn that are problems.

If Perry gets the nomination, I can only hope he learned from getting slammed. I would point out that the whole state that was in revolt, elected him again - despite Hutchinson making it the big issue.

You are certainly welcome to your view.

I only suggest we vet all the potential nominees and let the chips fall where they may.

Gov. Perry is relatively new to the field and is heading the leader board. Let’s make sure that he can withstand the scrutiny he is inevitably going to face should be be nominated to run against Obama and the media.

Not the same thing when the disease is only transmitted behaviorally.

In these kinds of cases, the vaccine is called Just Don’t Do It.

Ok, just going by what the FDA says....

FDA licensed Gardasil, the first vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer, abnormal and precancerous cervical lesions, abnormal and precancerous vaginal and vulvar lesions and genital warts. Gardasil is a recombinant vaccine and is effective against HPV types 6, 11, 16 and 18, and is approved for use in females http://www.fda.gov/BiologicsBloodVaccines/Vaccines/QuestionsaboutVaccines/ucm096052.htmages 9-26 years.

If our sources disagree, that doesn't make either of us a liar.

“I also have noticed Palin hasn’t offered any proof to her smear of Perry”

Are you trying to claim Governor Perry wasn’t involved in the Gardasil matter?

What we have here is people pretending to be Republicans still trying to bring down Perry in searching for a purist that does not exist.

Perry vs 0bama? I’ll take Perry. We need a man with guts.

-"I do dislike her populistic bent"

So you seem uncomfortable in disliking 'insider deals' and 'taxpayer money going to big corporate donors'? Because that's what she's fighting. Not sure what part of the "populist bent' in her positions or records that you seem to dislike. Or is it talking about us (We the People) that doesn't sit well with you. Just curious, because this is the first time I have ever heard anyone say this about SP. I mean the left will never attack her for being "too populist".

And how about those Merck donor bucks channeled through the RGA? $250,000

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The RGA has an annual budget in the area of $50 to $60 million. The Republican association raised $31 Million for political activity in just three months of 2010 (July to September).

The contributors included an additional $250,000 from Rupert Murdoch’s News America Inc., bringing its total contribution for the year to $1.25 million; $3.5 million from Bob Perry, the Texas builder who was a major financier of Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, for a year-to-date total of $4 million; $1 million from Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire casino mogul and longtime conservative donor; and $1 million from Paul Singer, the hedge fund manager, who has now contributed $2 million to the group this year.

In addition, the Michigan Chamber of Commerce donated $1 million, bringing its total to $5.4 million. A number of corporations also wrote sizable checks, including Cisco Systems, for $35,000; Microsoft, for $100,000; and Motorola, for $50,000. (These companies also contributed to the Democratic Governors Association.)

So, Merck's 355k contribution is a pittance in terms of even amounts contributed to the RGA by the MI Chamber of Commerce. Nice try though - keep digging.

“Corporate Crony Capitalism is a persistent and growing concern.”

I agree. It’s been around since the founding of the gov’t in America. The more regulations center power in the government instead of markets, the more business has to influence gov’t to operate.

Not all of that is crony capitalism, but by innuendo, it is all being classified as such to justify a campaign.

I simply disagree that it is a crisis.

I’m with you. Personally, I don’t see Bachmann remaining in the race much past the end of September. She overreached after the debate and the money must be drying up.

The only way I’d vote for Romney is if he is the nominee versus Obama, but I’d hold my nose.

If you ever rise to a position of prominence and power, I’m sure that the people you will surround yourself with are those you dislike, distrust, have done nothing but oppose you and are trying to make you fail. Not!

In other words, I think you’d do like normal people would do and bring your friends, associates, contributors, and confidantes with you...your cronies!

"Perry vs 0bama?"

It's a bit premature to be foisting that question on people on this side of the fence, while we're still trying to pick the best one for our side. To stick that question in someone's face in order to support your candidate, demonstrates that you admit he has some serious weaknesses that you want others to just ignore.
