Field Poll: Californians sour on Obama
Sacramento Bee ^ | 9/14/11 | David Siders

Even in heavily Democratic California, President Barack Obama's job approval rating has plummeted among voters, largely on his handling of the economy, according to a new Field Poll.

Though Obama is strongly favored to win California in his re-election bid next year, the poll suggests many Democrats may vote for him only begrudgingly, and it is yet another indication of weakening support nationwide.

"When you're seeing vulnerability in a state like California, I think that really is ominous for his national standing," Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo said.

For the first time since Obama took office in 2009, less than half of California voters – 46 percent – approve of the job he is doing, just two percentage points more than disapprove, according to the poll.

Obama's decline has been quick and widespread: As little as three months ago, his approval rating in California was 54 percent. Since June, his rating has suffered double-digit percentage drops among Democrats, nonpartisans, Central Valley residents, men, African Americans, Asian Americans and voters over 65.

It has fallen nearly 20 points since Field's post-inaugural measure in March 2009 had him at 65 percent approval.

Though a plurality of Californians remain inclined to re-elect Obama, . . .

So, they’re going to vote for someone, even though they don’t like him?

Welcome to my world.

Since I don't live in CA I am only guessing, but maybe Californians are sour because their RAT savior has not yet bailed out the state from under their crushing debt.

They can start proving it by throwing out that collection O’Cretins that they’ve got in their own legislature.

And governor moonbeam?

Get serious, CA.

At this point in time, methinks you should just declare yourselves part of Mexico and continue your decline into the abyss.

You gotta love the idiots of this state who regularly rise to the definition of insanity-—doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Maybe you should move to Texas, where 70 percent of illegal alien families are collecting welfare...Where illegal aliens are dropping nearly 1000 babies per month at Dallas Parkland Hospital, and Perry was the FIRST governor in the entire U.S. to give in-state tuition to illegal aliens.

With their wonderful weather, you might be happier there.

Ditto for the Zero admin! How many stimulus packages will it take before he figures out they don’t work?

The whole “jobs speech” last week was an admission of failure by the Obama administration of all its economic policies it pursued prior to that day, most notably the laughably titled “stimulus,” a word Democrats are loathe to even use anymore. Notice the pundit class missed this point—that Obama was conceeding failure in having to even give a jobs speech to begin with.

I think the Mexicans are going to claim CA anyway.

Well, here’s where it’s going to get interesting. Governor Brown recently signed a law, if I recall correctly, that mandates that California’s electoral votes be given to the winner of the POPULAR vote in a Presidential election. Now, if the Republican candidate wins the popular vote, it means that Bammy’s hoped for electoral votes from California go directly to the Repubican candidate.

Of course, as we all know, if a Republican wins the popular vote, the libturd legislators will be cramming the capitol the next day to play CYA to try to overturn the law THEY passed.

I think Brown signed on to that National Compact. The electoral votes won’t go to the popular vote winner until 2/3 of the states also sign on.

Left Coasters are souring on Obama because he has not gone left fast enough to suit them.

Obama will win CA by 20 points.

The breakdown of those numbers? It's asinine. Those suffering the most under his policies love him the most!

The national popular vote compact only takes effect when 270 electoral votes worth of states have signed on. It hasn’t happened yet and won’t before 2012.

Won’t happen in 2012. The number goes to 132, with CA being the 8th state. They need to hit 272 before this could go into effect anywhere.

So unless states with 140 electoral votes total (or more) vote the same type bill, there will be no change for 2012.

While it is great that at least some Californians are starting to wake-up, that buries the real lede in this story, and that is the GENERATIONAL split. Obama won’t lose California no matter who the GOP puts up in 2012. What is really concerning, however, is Zero’s approval ratings by AGE, which portends doom for California - and quite possibly the country - in the future.

After many years of liberals controlling the education establishment and the culture (Think Jon Stewart, Hollywood, the MSM) - but even more as a result of California’s changing demographics, the difference in political views among the age groups is stark - and scary. Keep in mind, a majority of young people in California voted for Ronald Reagan just a generation ago. As horrendous as Obama has been, he will almost certainly win not only a substantial majority of younger Californians, but once again a substantial majority of younger voters nationally in 2012.

According to the poll, over 65 Californians disapprove of Obama 40 to 51%, while younger voters 18 to 29 APPROVE of his performance a whopping 53 to 35 percent. That generational split in approval further validates those of us who have opposed the naive, effectively open border” policies of GOP leaders like Bush, McCain, and others.

As the country’s demographics as a whole slowly but surely begin to mirror those of California, I see little evidence that these younger voters will vote any more “conservative” in the future. Very troubling indeed...

“The breakdown of those numbers? It’s asinine. Those suffering the most under his policies love him the most!”

Ever since Reagan was governor, California has been slipping farther and farther into the dark abyss of Democrat led policies.

Originally a heavily Republican state, emigration from the east coast, and the invasion of both legal and illegal immigrants has turned this once proud state into a cesspool.
There are pockets of sanity left, notibly the central valley (where FR is based) but a visit to SF or LA will quickly prove to you that you can travel off planet without leaving the earth.

Notible here is the deal the Republican deal made with Democrats that created “safe” Republican Districts that doomed them to permenent minority status. Will redistricting reverse this political disaster? At this point I hold out little hope for short term relief.

Why? Because the Republican Party in California resembles its brothers on the east coast.....essentialy Democrat lite.

Obama’s only saving grace may be that he opens some eyes to the failure of Democrat ideas.......but I’m not holding my breath....too much group think in this state. It’ll be a long road back.

So true. Even many Dims won’t vote for the bill now - no way will it get out of the House.
