Helmet bill veto: 'Not every human problem deserves a law'
Legislation mandating helmets for minors hitting the slopes has been vetoed by Gov. Jerry Brown.
The Democratic governor said in a veto message that his decision to reject Senate Bill 105 was driven by concerns about the "continuing and seemingly inexorable transfer of authority from parents to the state."
"Not every human problem deserves a law," Brown wrote.

I’m stunned!
It is unbelievable That I actually agree with Jerry Brown
Did someone smack him in the head?
That’s actually a sensible comment.
The CA legislature concentrates on this when the state is broken. They ignore the whirlpool and continue to swim downstream. Thumbs up on this one.
WOW! That’s like Obama saying every problem can’t be solved with Gov’t spending! That medical Marijuana must really be strong....LOL
Then repeal the motorcycle helmet law Jerry!
“Show me a young man that is not a liberal and I will show you a man without a heart. Show me an old man who IS a liberal and I will show you a man without a brain.”
Brown demonstrated that he has a brain. And he did it in how he explained his reason for vetoing the law. Brilliant.
This is weird. He’s getting to the heart of some very conservative issues better than a lot of conservatives.
Whilst mayor of Oakland, he was extremely effective in leading the city back from the brink. Very pragmatic solutions to long time problems. Walked the neighborhoods, at night, down by Oakland Coliseum, for example, meeting with families and pastors of local churches there.
Among lefties, this guy has taken his own road back and while I disagree with him on a good many things, he isn’t Sheila Jackson Lee, Pelosi, or even Feinstein.
Guy is way more pragmatic. When he was elected, I kept thinking “Only Nixon could go to China.” He may be able to convince his own kooks that there won’t be an agenda to defend if businesses leave for good.
I’m gobsmacked.
It is just possible that this is what liberals are forced to do (butt out) when they just don’t have the money needed to micromanage our lives. Hopefully we’ll see more of this.
He can't.
His job is called "governor". Governors don't have the power either to enact or to repeal legislation.
Enacting and repealing legislation is the purview of a branch of government called (unsurprisingly) the "legislature".
The most Governor Moonbeam can do is encourage the legislature to repeal the motorcycle helmet law, and promise to sign the repeal when it hits his desk.
Jerry Brown is so wacky, that he actually gets it right sometimes, much more so than most liberals.
Broken clock alert. Blind squirell alert. Hell is freezing in Sacramento.
I don’t know...for some reason, for a Democrat, I always liked Brown. I’ve seen him in a debate on Firing Line and he’s not an idiot.
I was never a liberal.
Wow! Moonbeam is making sense here.
Dave Bing in Detroit is a democrat in the traditional sense but he’s no marxist.
He met Obama at the airport but didn’t attend the speech. (the unions wouldn’t have welcomed him)
People who ride a motorcycle without a helmet don't have anything worth protecting anyway.
