After all of the mass shootings recently, like the one in Nevada today, we need to protect ourselves. Police will only be there to question the witnesses. My understanding is that the gunman/woman shot himself before the police got there.

I’m starting to think that criminals should be made to work off their debts, or start selling off spare organs. Those injuries to the victim are going to be expensive. Who should pay for them? The victim? You and me (with increased premiums)? On the other hand, what about the perp’s hospital bills? His mom and dad are going to have a hard time explaining all this to the insurance company...

When you need help in seconds, the police are only minutes away.

Agreed.

Shots were fired by both. The 15-year-old shot Eells in the stomach. Eells shot the alleged robber in the back and leg, police say.

Sounds like the punk got the better end of the deal.

A couple more of these and the animals who go around in Philly Flash Mobs may think twice about picking on a lone jogger or bike rider. Too bad they aren't planning the 15 year old’s funeral right now.

I used to work for a corporation that owned an insurance company. Every salaried employee got a life insurance policy as a fringe. I remember reading it, and one of the conditions was that it would not pay off in the event that the insured died in the commission of a felony. (I do not remember if suicide was excluded.)

I went to high school with a kid who was killed robbing a bank in his early twenties. I always wonderer if it was suicide by cop. He did not seem like the kind of kid who would have hurt a fly, so I had to wonder.

I hope the 21 year old had the good sense to finish off the perp.

One thing that bugs me about this article - they won’t release the perp’s name because he’s a juvenile, but the cops & media have no qualms about releasing the victim’s name. Hope that doesn’t make him a target for the perp’s thug friends.

“or start selling off spare organs.”

Damn. That is one of the most creative solutions to crime I’ve ever read.

You commit a violent crime, we harvest your organs so better people than you can live.

Brilliant.

“You commit a violent crime, we harvest your organs so better people than you can live.”

This has actually been explored in science fiction...but it always turns out badly, like losing a kidney for speeding, for example.

Still, I’d love to hear the liberal explanation as to why the victim or any of us have to pay for the damage done by this idiot. That would take A LOT of hand-wringing and probably ending in something like the victim and society deserve it because they created the perp.

The perp is probablly covered by medicaid. That needs to be changed - any medical bills created by a criminal act should be the responsibility of the criminal.
