The recent victim of an attempted armed robbery says she is taking measures to protect her family against crime by becoming more aware of her surroundings but some in Topeka are taking safety precautions a step further.
Teresa, a resident of Topeka, avoided an attempted robbery Tuesday morning after she returned home to her driveway where a man armed with a gun approached her. Teresa says she began screaming and was able to get inside her home and lock the door then immediately called police.
This has become an all too familiar scene over the last several months in Topeka, with home invasions and robberies on the rise. Teresa's home was robbed just back in April and says her family is taking more safety precautions.
"We changed the doors for more security and we are thinking about installing an alarm," says Teresa.
But some people are going a step further. Kevin Ketter, owner of Kaw Valley Gun Club, says this summer he has seen a significant increase in people coming in to buy and rent guns as well as people wanting to know how they can safely protect themselves.

Obama voters burglarize homes.. taking their fair share. They’ll be back for more, if they’re not stopped.
my experience is that obama voters still have jobs and everyone else does not.
We were robbed this summer and the perps were not wearing Sarah Palin t-shirts.
It’s been happening in my neighborhood and all the ones that surround me. Things like that use to never happen around here.
Amish?

Never hesitate to SHOOT when you feel your life is in danger!
Like some of the others on this thread, we were robbed this summer (unlocked cars). I wish I could have caught the little Obama voters who did it, but one of my neighbors said that it happened at 4AM.
Eastern KS has lots of RATS. And most of the crime.
Teresa says she began screaming and was able to get inside her home and lock the door then immediately called police.
Up until that time (and probably after) she probably hated guns so she had no protection other than screaming and hoping the police would get there before she was attacked.
When I hear of these types of things with unarmed sheep, it proves the point that attacks can be prevented by deadly means, but if we continue to coddle criminals, they will become even more commonplace.
Remember: Revolvers are accurate, reliable, VERY SAFE, and do not throw their empties (evidence) all over the place.

Bought a used Ruger Mini-14 several weeks ago. Looked at an AR but the Ruger was a bargain and what I saved bought a lot of ammo. Tested it at the range...fed great from the twenty round magazines and was a real pleasant shooting session. It may not be as accurate as the AR at longer distances but I don’t need a sniping rifle...it will lay down some fearsome fire if, God forbid, it should ever be necessary.
