Worldwide attention fuels demand 2nd gun added to Pima County GOP raffle (AZ)

The Pima County Republican Party’s controversial gun raffle fundraiser was such a success that they ended up raffling off another weapon.

The notoriety fueled such demand, said interim Chairman Mike Shaw, not only did the raffle for the Glock pistol sell out, but they subsequently raffled a deer rifle as well.

The raffle garnered worldwide attention because it was organizes eight months after the Tucson shooting spree.

The model of Glock is not the same as the one Jared Lee Loughner used in the Jan. 8, rampage. The gun used by Loughner was a Glock 19. The weapon being raffled is a Glock 23.

Loughner faces 49 criminal counts in the mass shooting that left six people dead and 13 wounded, including the apparent target of the shooting, U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

National progressive pundit Keith Olbermann dubbed the raffle “a crass, heartless, Neanderthal decision” and questioned whether local Republican leaders had ceased to be human.

Locally, some Republicans have likewise publicly distanced themselves from the raffle.

City Councilman Steve Kozachik characterized it as “incredibly stupid,” especially when the party is gearing up for the city’s general election.

“When you have a slate of candidates who are already trying to generate some name recognition, in a City where they are out-registered by 2:1, and you tie a Glock to their tail, you've pretty much shown that you don't understand the dynamics of the area,” he concluded.

But Shaw said he was told Democrats and independents bought tickets, estimating 10 percent of the buyers were Democrats.

He also said three Democrats changed their voter registration to Republican on Thursday, with another Friday morning.

Democratic state lawmaker Matt Heinz, who owns a Beretta firearm, remains critical of the raffle.

>> The gun used by Loughner was a Glock 19.

There are a gazillion Glock 19s out there and one was used by the liberal Loughner. So now it is the “Loughner Gun” for all eternity?

If I use my J-frame to save a life, will that same media hold up all J-frames as the “Life-saver gun”?

This is a stupid and insensitive move on the part of the GOP. They can have a fundraiser many other ways without bad publicity or criticism.

Letting your enemies dictate what is acceptable is a losing strategy.

The people who died at that rally had a different political opinion. The people who loved those people may have had different political views than the people they loved. That nine year old girl who died wasn’t anyone’s enemy.

You are correct, but what does that have to do with the gun raffle? The raffle was politicized by the left in an attempt to demonize Conservatives. Their attempt at demonetization raised considerable more funds for the conservatives.

Great post....laughed when I read it. Thanks Mark Twain.

Heck. I wish it was a GOP starter set....Glock and AR15 combo package....with promise of future “complete the set” raffles for an 870 Remington and Ruger 10-22.

The rank and file must shout down in shame this “feelings and sensitivity” BS and the orchestrated “outrages” that our nuggetless RINO leaders run and hide from.

We can never control how someone “feels”. That means if we play that game.....WE LOSE. Screw how they feel.

It is a gun. It is legal. It is American culture and liberty. Life and freedom IS NOT risk free. Tell them to STFU and deal with it.

What make and model car did that grabastic piece of rat feces Lougher drive to the scene? How about a Libtard day of media rage over anybody in AZ driving or selling a Honda Civic or whatever the flip it was.....”Don’t you know how seeing those beastly cars makes me feel?” Sniff and whine.

Lord save us from fools.

Exactly. No one has a "right" not to be offended. Freedom means that you have a right to be offensive. No government ever tried to suppress "inoffensive speech".

Not that I agree that the raffle was at all insensitive. It was simply labled such by the powers that be on the left in the MSM.

ITS NOT ABOUT THE GUN STUPID!

Its about the idiots that nobody wanted to do anything about. Wouldn’t logic tell those who are afraid of guns to be even more afraid if one of their bleeding heart protected nutcases manages to get their hands on one?

How many of those unfortunate souls could have been saved if just one had an open-carry permit and scared the jackass away?

...open-carry permit...

A what? This is AZ. You don't even need a permit to carry concealed. Been carrying open and freely since I lived here ('80)

Listen I have had a ccw for 25 years. Lived in Tucson where many do carry with and without a ccw. Before you call me stupid let me remind you that if I was a criminal I would shoot the open carry guy first.

Never have open carried ...always concealed. Had to pull my weapon in various states three times and never had to shoot anyone yet. Twice the police where involved and I did everything correctly enough so I never got in trouble. One other time in Seattle over 20 years ago I got a drink at a 7-11 in a crack area at 1:30 in the morning. As I rounded the corner to the drivers door of my Roto-Rooter truck the was an Amish boy leaning against my truck. He opened his jacket and showed me his gun to prove he was ready to rob me. I opened my jacket and proved I was ready to roll. He turned and walked away really quickly. That was as close to open carry as I ever got.

There are now four States that have Constitutional carry.
1) Vermont
2) Arizona
3) Alaska
4) Wyoming (as of July 1, 2011)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constitutional_carry

I look forward to the day when every State will have Constitutional carry.
