Perry was Al Gore's campaign ManagerThis is not true. Perry has stated this was not true, and the Texas democrats who worked that campaign stated last week, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, that this was not true.
This is not true. Perry has stated this was not true, and the Texas democrats who worked that campaign stated last week, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, that this was not true.
Let me also pointed out that what Perry said was a complete and utter lie:
This was Al Gore before he invented the Internet and got to be Mr. Global Warming, Perry said. Growing up in rural Texas, he said, I never met a Republican until I was 25.
In 1988 when you looked at the candidates, Al Gore was the most conservative candidate that was out there. He pointed to Gores support for missile defense.
You know how you can tell?
Because Al Gore's American Conservative Union rating average for the 3 previous years before Perry ran his campaign in Texas was a 7.5% and all of the Abortions votes included in those three years of ratings he voted Pro-Abortion.
As a Democrat and a Politician, Perry would know this at the time. Either that, or he is real stupid.
Furthermore, for comparison, Barbara Boxer the extreme liberal Senator of California had I believe a 8% rating in 2010.
That tells you how liberal Al Gore was at the time when Perry lied about how conservative he was.
It’s a common misconception. Campaigns look for high-ranking public officials to be their “state chair”. For example, in 2008 in Virginia Bill Bolling was ROmney’s State Chair, and Bob McDonald was Fred Thompson’s State Chair.
Neither of them were their candidate’s “campaign managers”, nor did they really have much to do with the campaigns, other than bringing along state organizations to help the campaigns out.
But it’s not like perry opponents care that much about getting the facts right. They did at first, but when those facts didn’t get the results they wanted, they started shading the facts.
Like changing “state chair” to “campaign manager”, or saying parents couldn’t opt out of the gardasil rules, or saying Perry wants comprehensive amnesty — all of which started with a seed of truth but are not wild hyberbole meant only to inflame.
Fortunately, the tactics, which are shared with Obama’s campaign staff and the folks at DU, aren’t really working.
