North America is said to be the only continent with a broad plain open to both the Arctic and the tropics. That probably accounts for some surprisingly high temperatures in the upper Midwest.

I know it can get pretty warm here in Michigan. Add the humidity and its like carrying a 100 degree anvil around all day.

Both my parents have talked about the summer of 1936 many times. And the winter before and after were rough winters, I believe.
