Where are my glasses? At first glance, I thought you wrote;
“I live in Butthead City, AZ”
I know it can get pretty warm here in Michigan. Add the humidity and its like carrying a 100 degree anvil around all day.
25 of them in the 1930’s and a good percentage of those in 1936.
The coldest temp in CT was set 2/16/43 at minus 32 which is pretty balmy compared to minus 80 in Alaska but stil cold enough for any purpose I have.
I was on a plane back home (PHX ).. that day. The airport diverted all the flights to land in Tucson because there were no FAA guidelines for landing in that temperature. We had to lay over for a couple hours or so until temps dropped.
NH
The coldest midwest temperatures were right around the same time. I believe the highest seasonal snowfall in Michigan was also within that 2 or 3 year period.
Notice the hottest day in Arizona (in Havasu) was also the hottest day in Nevada -- June 29, 1994. That temperature was probably set in Laughlin, across the river from Bullhead. Bullhead itself must have been about 127 that day.
I actually remember that whole week. If I'm not mistaken, there were 11 days in a row in June of '94 in Havasu that topped 120, culminating in that 128.
But it was actually hotter than that. At my home thermometer it read in the low 130s. I talked to many other Havasuvians too. EVERYONE said their thermometers read in the low 130s. However, the "official" temp was taken at a station located on a grassy patch of lawn where the sprinklers were running 24/7. The thought was that if the the official temp got too hot, it would scare off the tourists.
Wonder how that panned out...
Scary thing is, I have to be in Havasu on Tuesday for some work. I fear the return!
i was in palm desert when it was 123.
Yes, I suppose there are no guidelines for landing a plane on a melting runway.
—yep—Lead , SD can still claim its highest-100F— and lowest—36 below in 1936-—
I have been in Bullhead for over six years..there have been many days over 125. I was in Havasu about six weeks ago and when I got into my car it said 137! I kid you not. I didn’t even realize it registered that high.

I was watching an old movie last night and at the end when they rolled the credits, one of the actors was....
Guss Sithole.
Guess what a sorry life that poor bastard must have lived with a name like that. LMAO.
my sister still lives there. landscaping is raking sand and rearranging the rocks.
was there in 94. I don't remember the month\day, but it was 118 @ 9:00 a.m. and the temp climbed steadily.
Fly into the airport in a puddle jumper. The pilots do everything. They took the luggage out of the plane and put it on the tarmac.
I went to get my bag and I was told I must pick it up in the terminal, which was about the size of a Wendy's.
We get inside the terminal. The pilots open a hatch from outside the terminal and hand me my bag through the opening.
I love the heat and I'd move there if I could...but the 1st Sargent has other ideas.
well, if you’re an evolutionist, probably millions of degrees before the Earth cooled

That's the joke. The temp station used to be on the only patch of lawn in the entire town (in front of the fire station on Lake Havasu Ave.)
The theory was that the lawn would help "cushion" the temp into reading a little bit lower. I think it worked, but not enough. For at least 6 years straight in the 90s, Havasu was the hottest city in America.
But the powers-that-be didn't like that sort of publicity, so they moved the temp station. I *think* it's up near the airport now. Since then, Havasu still competes for hottest city in America, but its official temps are a little bit lower.
Like everything else, it's all about the local politics.
