Given the depth of his loathing for the federal government, it's a little surprising that Texas Gov. Rick Perry wants to preside over it.....
[snip]
Social Security: Perry sees it as a misguided product of the New Deal........Moreover, Perry's proposed fixes for the healthcare system tort reform, individual (rather than employer-sponsored) ownership of health insurance, portability of plans for people who move or change jobs would do nothing to slow the growth of healthcare costs or reduce the number of uninsured Americans.
[snip]
National defense:.............He believes President Obama's attempts to limit nuclear weapons are misguided because they ignore "the realities of a world full of power-hungry despots who respect us not because of our ideals but because of our strength.".......
[snip]
Politics: If you thought the Republicans in control of the House were an uncompromising bunch, they've got nothing on Perry. In Texas, the governor has never been known for reaching across the aisle and pressures moderate Republicans to toe the conservative line. He believes the GOP lost its congressional majority in 2006 not because of an unpopular war but because the party compromised its small-government principles. Under a Perry administration, it would be Rick's way or the highway.
[snip]
....(notably, he doesn't see the world getting warmer, as climate scientists predict it will be in 2026, because he believes that the overwhelming scientific consensus about man-made global warming is "a contrived phony mess").....
Perry expresses deep nostalgia for the laissez faire, robber-baron era at the turn of the 20th century, when government stayed out of the way of business, unions were weak or nonexistent and the Progressive movement hadn't yet taken off.....

This short editorial [a warning] about Gov. Rick Perry comes from the California state media, a state that has flushed it's once touted (9th in the world!) economy down the toilet (yet shouting ever louder to tapped out citizens, "Stand and deliver!") -- about Rick Perry, who has Texas filling up with people fleeing the debilitating/strangulating effects of LIBERAL governance.
The LA Times thoughtfully and concisely sets forth areas that a President ("over regulation, over taxation, over litigation") Rick Perry would focus on to bring prosperity and security back to the country. This piece (with it's snark and dark clouds of warning) shows the sharp divide between socialism and free-market capitalism and the notion that a strong, prosperous America means a safer world.
Nice summation of Perry.
Its a sad, sad state of affairs when liberals campaign like Republicans to get elected, and Republicans govern like liberals to be loved
Texas GOP Governor Rick Perry CALLS OUT California GOP Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger

On September 7, 2007: Perry gave a speech to California Republicans -- ..........."Here again we see how little faith the Left has in the people. Its as if the mere mention of God is so compelling that it might influence their atheist friends to start believing in something besides themselves. But whatever happened to reasoned discourse to children in schools being exposed to different cultures and different faith traditions?
If they are so proud of their secular humanist worldview, why wont they allow the simple-minded views of the uneducated masses to be lined up next to their philosophy of self and all its wisdom and just let the people decide?
And since when did the field of science become the sole purview of left-wing politicians? I dont know about you, but Ive heard Al Gore talk about man-made global warming so much that Im starting to think that his mouth is the leading source of all that supposedly deadly carbon dioxide.
"Virtually every day another scientist leaves the global warming bandwagon. ... But you won't read about that in the press because they have already invested in one side of the story."

"The terrorist element in the Middle East hates our way of life. And even with the battle raging in Iraq and Afghanistan, we cannot turn a blind eye to the regime in Iran that would obliterate the only democracy in the Middle East if they had a chance. And its no big secret that Iranian arms and know-how are finding their way across the border into Iraq, threatening the lives of our allies and, more importantly, our own fighting men and women."..............
March 2011 Perry: Stand up and stop apologizing......."We need to stop apologizing for celebrating life, the Republican Texas governor bellowed at the Republican Leadership Conference in a finger-pointing, finger-wagging and, at times, bombastic, speech.
Stop apologizing for wanting to stem the tide of the entitlement mindset, he boasted.
Our opponents on the left are never going to like us, so lets stop trying to curry favor with them, he said, before imploring the crowd to stand up. Lets speak with pride about our values. Lets stop this American downward spiral. ................
"Uh, and pay no attention that we are literally owned by Wall Street."
The ultra leftwing LA Times appears to like Rick Perry. That certainly shouldn’t set off any alarm bells or anything. /s
August 13, 2011 Rick Perry's Announcement Speech at Red State Gathering [YouTube]
Well, if the LA Times loathes him that badly, it says very good things about him in my book.
I’m still in Sarah’s corner though.
This is all they've got, isn't it? The right LOATHES the government!
Nope, sorry, LA Times--just because Perry and many others want the government to WORK and to get off the backs of those who don't want to be restricted by the government, doesn't make one a hater. It just means we don't think government is there to be the central factor in our lives. If you can't tell the difference between desiring government to work well and in its proper proportion and "loathing" then you really shouldn't be in the newspaper business.
Comment AFTER you read the Editorial.
Or better yet, go post some pro-Obama stuff at the LA Times site.
You mean like President I Won?
Basically! And that Perry LOVES a working America.
Good one.
The piece is filled with liberal straight lines.
It’s just so typical—Republicans are either scary/dangerous or stupid.
If the LAT was forced to never use smear jobs and instead had to simply engage on the issues, it’d be publishing a pamphlet.
You get it. The rest of these Freepers don't.
Texas has added 929,000 jobs since 2001, while California has lost approximately 635,000 manufacturing jobs in that same time, Stewart said.
Answering questions after his speech, Stewart told the story of Perry sending programmed cellphones to CEOs in California with a simple message: "If you're interested in growing your business, please call me. I'm here to help."
"They're doing something right down there," Stewart said of what he dubs the "Texas miracle." "Gov. Perry will go anywhere, any time, to try to recruit companies into Texas."
Perry has taken the state's regulatory process and managed it himself, Stewart said
[CA Economic Development Corporation President Mark] Lascelles emphasized that it does no good to belabor California's regulatory environment.
"Unfortunately, we can't avoid it. We have to deal with it," he said. Speaker focuses on job creation
Maybe they will be able to paste pictures of Presidente Perry in their empty refrigerators to calm their growling stomachs.
I like it - the LA Times sets out to hurt Perry and it made me like him even more.
That is exactly the intent of publishing this article. This is what being manipulated is about. Your choices are being made for you and circumscribed so that you only consider candidates that are perfectly acceptable to the status quo and the powers that be.
The LA Times didn't set out to hurt Perry. This piece (and others like it in other Left Wing Media) is designed to make Conservatives WANT to vote for Perry.
They WANT Perry to win the Republican nomination.
Perry is a Bilderberger. A Perry vs Obama match up is win-win for the Global Elite. Just as was Bush vs Kerry & Bush vs Gore and Clinton vs Dole & Clinton vs Bush I.
They set up an "election" where no matter who wins, American Patriots LOSE. The one the Globalists HATE is Sarah Palin. Because they don't own her & they can't control her. That's why they are terrified of her.
