Delingpole: Sun Causes Climate Change Shock
Telegraph UK ^ | August 27, 2011 | James Delingpole

Posted on 08/27/2011 6:14:32 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

If Michael Crichton had lived to write a follow-up to State of Fear, the plotline might well have gone like this: at a top secret, state of the art laboratory in Switzerland, scientists finally discover the true cause of “global warming”. It’s the sun, stupid. More specifically – as the Danish physicist Henrik Svensmark has long postulated – it’s the result of cosmic rays which act as a seed for cloud formation. The scientists working on the project are naturally euphoric: this is a major breakthrough which will not only overturn decades of misguided conjecture on so-called Man Made Global Warming but will spare the global economy trillions of dollars which might otherwise have been squandered on utterly pointless efforts to reduce anthropogenic CO2 emissions. However, these scientists have failed to realise just how many people – alarmist scientists, huckster politicians, rent-seeking landowners like (the late Michael Crichton’s brilliant and, of course, entirely fictional creation) the absurd, pompous Sir Reginald Leeds Bt, green activists, eco-fund managers, EU technocrats, MSM environmental correspondents – stand to gain from the Man Made “Climate Change” industry. Their discovery must be suppressed at all costs. So, one by one, the scientists on the cosmic ray project find themselves being bumped off, until only one man remains and must race against time to prove, etc, etc…

Except of course in the real world the second part wouldn’t happen. No one would need to go to the trouble of bumping off those pesky scientists with their awkward, annoying facts and their proper actual research. That’s because the MSM and the scientific “community” would find it perfectly easy to suppress the story anyway, without recourse to severed brake cables or ricin-impregnated hand-washes or staged “suicides”.

This is exactly what has happened with the latest revelations from CERN over....

The only reason for man made global warming is to further the political cause of the left.

When I heard that the Global Warming also affect Mars, Venus, and Jupitor, that pretty well said it’s the Sun that is causing it!

Now there may be some small local area on Earth that can be caused by Man! Such as Los Angeles Smog, for example!

Slight correction here - the sun doesn’t create cosmic rays. They’re energetic little buggers, and if the sun made lots of them, we’d be toast.

As someone pointed out in another discussion, scarity is necessary to justify rationing.

Jimmy Cahtuh told us to accept the “fact” we would have to be satisfied with a smaller piece of pie;and then Ronald Reagan said”bake more pies”!

I've always said that the biggest determinant of Earth's climate is that fireball circa 93,000,000 miles away called the Sun.

Indeed, you can correlate climate conditions to sunspot activity; I expect Earth to get warmer as we hit the peak of the current sunspot cycle between spring 2012 to fall 2013.

What really amazes me is how many people have accepted at face value this notion that CO2 is a greenhouse gas without bothering to check out the chemistry for themselves. Just more evidence that stupid people shouldn’t breed......

The last time I clicked through to a UK newspaper I got the blue screen of death. Does this guy understand that an active sun blocks cosmic rays, and the only reason we are being hit with more cosmic rays is the sun is relatively inactive?

Water vapor is the other biggie. Another interesting thing going on right now is a dramatic cooling in the atmosphere between 15,000 and 35,000’ msl. This has caused significant instability and is part of the reason why we had such violent storms this past spring. Bastardi was talking about this a week or so ago. Nobody knows why the cooling is occurring.

The article is less than clear on this, but the contention is NOT that the sun causes cosmic rays, but that changes in the sun's magnetic field modulate the influx of cosmic rays into the solar system, of which the earth is part.

Going back to the 1700's, William Herschel showed a strong correlation between wheat prices in London and sunspot numbers. Herschel (correctly) used wheat prices as a surrogate for temperature and deduced that sunspot number correlates with global temperatures. (Although he was far more modest in his correct claims than Al Gore is with his nonsense.)

At times in the year the sky over Arizona looks like the inside of a cloud chamber. You can see the cascade of particles as the cosmic rays slam into the atmosphere.

But Al Gore said so! And Al Gore is a selfless genius/saint who has no agenda except to save the planet for future generations. How could anyone possible question Al Gore? Except those greedy Big Oil companies.

That’s just it. You can’t question the Profit Algore ‘cause he won’t let you. He’s so sure he’s right he refuses to debate anyone, even for $1 million. He knows he’s wrong. I’m just a pilot and student of the weather and I could destroy his arguments in less than two minutes with cold, hard, proven facts. I would pay to see someone like Joe Bastardi or Dr. Roy Spencer debate Gore. I bet Bastardi could make Gore cry......

Duh!

Wonder why the brainiac so called scientists weren't able to figure this out. /sarc

One thing that really disgusts me is when smart, educated people abandon common sense. It annoys me when stupid people don’t have common sense, but you kind of expect that. As I get older, I increasingly see people who should know better buckling under to “get along” or for personal gain. Probably the human race has always been like that, an I’m finally clued into it. But I can’t help but feel this collective lack-of-spine will be the death of our country and civilization
