Renting is perfectly fine. You do it to try out the variety of firearms available at the range before making a "buy" decision. A decent handgun goes for $800+. It isn't something you purchase to see if you like it, then find a means of peddling what you don't.

Suicide by shooting range is becoming common here in central Florida. My understanding is that some gun ranges are refusing to rent guns unless the renter already has a gun.

Unfortunate for those who legitimately want to try out a weapon before purchasing one, but I can understand the caution on the part of owners of shooting ranges.
