Petty Officer Jon T. Tumilson was laid to rest Friday in Rockford, Iowa, where an estimated 1,500 mourners came to pay respects for the fallen Navy SEAL, including his dog Hawkeye. In fact, Hakeye’s loyalty to his owner at the funeral was visible, creating a heart-wrenching image as he laid down by the casket of his owner during the entire service:

This is one of the primary reasons I’m a dog lover. Loyalty.

Hachi anybody?

Doggie ping!

Anyone know what happened to the dog? Did someone adopt him?

That breaks my heart. Dogs are so special and ask very little from us other than a scratch behind the ear and a kind word.

It infuriates me when a dog is dumped and they patiently wait for their owner’s return. Those cretins don’t deserve such love and loyalty.

You’re absolutely right, dogs don’t need much to be content. Ours is low maintenance in that regard. Play time, walk time, feeding time.

Our current “pup” is a 3x rescue so to speak. She was dumped in the desert and rescued. Adopted out and then we “rescued” her from going back to the “shelter” and a possible death sentence by adopting her when her owners moved. She’s an absolute sweetheart. Extremely social towards humans and other dogs.

There’s been a lot of dumping going on in my area. So much so that the shelters have reduced the wait times to about half what they used to be. Now instead of about 10 days, it’s less than 5 for an animal to be adopted out before they’re euthanized.

It’s quite infuriating and sad at the time.

The worse the economy gets, the more pets get dumped.

Dear Lord, I can’t stop crying.

This handsome young man was killed in the prime of his life. His dog looks just like one of mine — G-Girl is her name. The second picture of the dog laying by the casket is just so very, very sad.

I love dogs. They are a gift from God.

I have two rescues. One from a no kill shelter and one from the dog pound. The one from the dog pound was on death row.

I am for mandatory spay and neuter to own a dog or cat with strict enforcement. I know I have been flamed for suggesting this, but I can’t stand the thought of so many of our wonderful friends being killed every day. There should be licenses to breed and stiffer penalaties for animal abuse.

As a staunch conservative, this is one area where I believe in stricter government—to protect those that can’t protect themselves. I feel the same way about the abuse of innocent children and the unborn.

Yeah, we got hit pretty hard here with the downturn. Too many folks over-extended themselves with all of that “free” money.

Not that it’s a positive, but at least when a pet gets dumped outside, it has some chance unlike some of the pets locked in homes that were abandoned.

We found a dog wandering on our street a couple of weeks ago. Skittish, but friendly. Had a collar, but no tag. Apparently had been roaming the neighborhood for some time as others had seen her but couldn’t get her.

Poor thing was starved, we had to control the amount of food we fed her.

If she had gotten along with our dog, we probably would have kept her until we had time to search for her owner or adopted her. But no go. She craved the attention, but became very territorial in just a matter of hours.
