Rep. Lewis: African-Americans frustrated with unemployment rate, not Obama
By Daniel Strauss - 08/18/11 01:37 PM ET
Lewis's comments come after Rep. Maxine Waters said the black community is supportive of Obama but also "getting tired."
African-Americans aren't frustrated with President Obama, they are frustrated with the high unemployment rate, Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) said.
"I don't think the people that I've been talking to today, and there's several thousand individuals here," Lewis said from a job fair in Atlanta. "They're not frustrated with President Obama, they're frustrated with unemployment. They want all of us to work together, to create jobs and put people back to work."
Lewis's comments to MSNBC come a few days after Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said the black community was supportive of Obama but are also "getting tired."
"Were supportive of the president, but we getting tired, yall. Getting tired," Waters said Tuesday in Detroit at a Congressional Black Caucus town hall. "And so what we want to do is we want to give the president every opportunity to show, to show what he can do and what hes prepared to lead on. We want to give him every opportunity, but our people are hurting. The unemployment is unconscionable. We dont know what the strategy is."
Waters also questioned why President Obama did not visit any black communities on his Midwest bus tour earlier this week.
Obama is set to unveil a new jobs plan in September, when Congress returns.
Lewis said that the high unemployment rate has hit the black community especially hard.
"It's affected greatly the African-American community," Lewis said.
...went OFF because she had to. Otherwise, she may lose an election.
Sorry Johnny. It’s about to get worse now that your boy has given the Mexican Nationals amnesty. Get used to it!
Idiots; they are angry with the symptom, not the source of the problem.
Black folks didn’t land on the Democrat plantation. The Democrat plantation landed on Black folks.
There are no African Americans; only Americans.
When you vote someone into the presidency without the experience of a hot-dog stand manager, you get turd-in-the-punchbowl results. |
Well, not a job! Just the money!
How dense can these African American politicians be? Obama assumes that blacks (can I use that term?) are going to vote for him NO MATTER WHAT. He does not have to, nor will he, do a damn thing for African Americans. He will not waste a minute of thought on them. And 90% will still vote for him.
Hey, learn spanish, bleach your skin a couple of shades lighter, and conk you hair strait.
Maybe then Obombie will give a damn about you!
“Black” American unemployment is around double what it is among “White” Americans, giving blanket amnesty to the illegals will only make it worse for everyone.
Whatever drives the “Black” unemployment rate being worse will certainly be exacerbated by this amnesty, expect “Black” employment to fall even further behind.
At the risk of annoying the moderators, my note to “Blacks” (or whatever the PC term of the minute is) this is what you reap when you vote for “Color” over principle and qualifications.
I can only hope everyone has learned better than that in 2012.
>”They’re not frustrated with President Obama, they’re frustrated with unemployment. <
Well, there ya go. What logic! The homeys deserve the Kenyan Klown. LOL I don’t care anymore. The more miserable the economy, the better the chance Odumbo gets out.
The nation is in this parlous state because of the likes of Reps such as Lewis, Waters, and the race hustlers like Jackson and Al Sharpton
I don’t see any of then fighting to leave.
It’s hard for them to do it for a number of reasons. Once we get more and more Black Republican officeholders like we used to have, it’ll get easier for them to break the chains. One big problem the GOP has is that it is too timid to go in and ask for their vote. Even when the party recruits candidates, very rarely do they supply them with the necessary resources. You can’t just get a candidate and once through the primary tell them they’re on their own. Lots of cycles we’ve had candidates put up and have almost zero in their campaign accounts. Can’t win with nothin’.
And blacks are finally coming to realize that.
Shopkeeper frustrated by stolen merchandise, not the thief that committed the crime.
I mean, really, you're starting to drift into "Mia T" territory here...
...and at least hers were limited to her "very special" Mia T threads!
The best statement re. Black cultural refinement and political sophiscation is via observation of the state of black-run countries in Africa.
