She and several other people have tried to save the dog but the scared pooch wont let anyone get near it.

If she keeps bringing it food and water a couple times a day, maybe he will eventually trust her and come to her. Sad to think someone left the dog there on purpose.
Sad to think someone left the dog there on purpose.
Right and right...
I hope you are right about the food. If a person left this dog in this precarious situation, really they should just go to prison for a long time.
Poor doggy.
It does seem to me something more could be done. I think they could shut that roadway down for a short time at a slow travel time, like early sunday morning. How about a net? The dog IS drinking the water so, he’s lure-able.
Pinging Slings to this one.
Truly a sad story about the dog. Horrible to think the owner abandoned it on the bridge. Prayers for the dog that it will find a better home and people who will provide the love it needs.
This breaks my heart. I sure hope that he is rescued and given a good home.
It happens all the time. Our beautiful little Chihuahua Coco was abandoned in our neighborhood in the middle of winter. She just ran up and down the street trying to look into every car that came by to see if it was her owner. No one could get ahold of her. finally after about a week I couldn’t stand it anymore and I got her to come to me and took her inside the house. We never looked back and she is the greatest dog ever. Good watchdog too.
Thank you. I’m sure you’ve been thanked 1000 times over, but still. Thank you.
On a more humorous note, I jumped a fence and stole a puppy from my parents neighbors a few years ago. I was visiting and the puppy woke me up with its barking. My parents had left early to go shopping so they weren’t home. I noticed the dog had no food or water and clearly mistreated. I went to have a closer look and the conditions were much worse than I had anticipated.
Something inside just snapped, I grabbed him up and jumped back over the fence and took off!! You should have heard my old man on the phone when I called to tell him I just stole his neighbors dog!! He was REALLY upset! Told me to take it back immediately. First time I ever told my old man NO in my whole life. I was about 35 or so.
When he got home, it took him about 2 minutes for him to change his mind. We found the puppy a home the next day. My Dad didn’t really even know his new neighbors yet. He’s got there number now though.
I’ve had a bit of an experience with stray dogs. Even if a dog is abused and left somewhere, he will wait there for his owners. We found a white German Shepherd that had been abandoned and it stayed there for days. I took it food and water. It would let me come near but not let any man, especially a man wearing a cap come near.
I called a rescue society for German Shepherds and this very experienced woman was able to get a leash on it and then it seemed to relax and actually jumped into her pickup.
We also found an — that dog in the OJ simpson trial — who acted the same way. Animal control was able to tempt it and I called the A??? rescue society who picked him up.
But a dog that’s run away just for adventure will keep running and not stay in one place.
So sad that a dog will wait for ages for owners who were mean and abandoned him, but that’s a dog for you. Gotta love them.
Good for you. We did that once. Could not stand watching the guy abuse the poor dog any longer. Midnight one night that dog miraculously grew wings and flew across the fence. 2 hours later he was 25 miles away in a new home with some friends.
Our other dog Buddy the Beagle is also a rescue I picked up from the yard. He has been with us 10 years now and is a great little guy. I have always contended that there is an invisible sign in our yard that says “limp up this driveway to a life of luxury”. LOL!!
We found a lot of dogs because Bubba and I used to walk on very long walks. The German Shephard was by the football field at a high school.
We don’t walk that far any more because Bubba is older and can’t take the heat. (insists on wearing black fur in any weather)
OK, before everyone ‘dogpiles’ me as mean.. I mean get a vet out there with a good eye for the amount of tranquilizer to use in the dart.
Watching it run around in traffic is a lot worse than taking immediate action and shooting it.
I think you want Joe 6-Pack - I have the Kitty Ping List.
I hope the pooch comes out OK.
We used to live not far from there, out in the country. Occasionally somebody will drop dogs off out in the country and 2 years ago we took 2 six-month old puppies in. The two dogs are brother and sister and hung together for at least 4 days (according to our neighbors). After that I tried to find their owners, gave up and we took them in. Their names are Truman Capote and Harper Lee, two friends from childhood. They bring us all kinds of joy!
Sorry Slings, thanks for passing it on. I didn’t realize your list was all kittys, even though I’m on it.
Maybe this proves I’m not anti-dog as some in my family think.
I think they need to abandon the owner onthat bridge with no food and water and no way to get out of the situation. Just my humble opinion.
No worries - G-d knows I love dogs myself.
Works for me!! Poetic justice wouldn’t be a bad thing for these scum....
I have a neighbor who did something similar to you. Her sister had told her of a dog that was neglected. Poor dog was kept outside all the time, no water or food, skinny and matted. Muddy. Horrible situation. So.. she went with her sister to see the dog. The dog came to the fence and licked her hand. This woman told me later that she just got possessed... all of a sudden, she kicked off her shoes and climbed the fence (wearing a skirt and hose). Her sister was telling her “no.. someone will call the police” but she didn’t care. She picked up the dog, handed it to her sister and climbed back over. The two RAN back to the car with the dog and never looked back. Her hose was torn, her skirt ripped but she had her dog. That dog was the sweetest pooch you ever met and well worth the risk and some clothing. LOL!!
