Ron Paul delivers strongly anti-abortion speech
Politico ^ | 2011-08-13 | Alexander Burns

Meet Ron Paul, the social conservative.

The Texas congressman, best known for his small-government, anti-Federal Reserve economic views, tacked in a different direction with his Ames address and delivered an uncharacteristically sharp denunciation of the practice of abortion. Continue Reading

Paul began his remarks by acknowledging that his campaign is "identified with the cause of liberty." But, he continued: "There is something that precedes liberty and that is life."

"The prime reason that government exists in a free society is to protect liberty, but also to protect life. And I mean all life," Paul said.

The libertarian-leaning presidential candidate, who is an obstetrician by training, has long opposed abortion rights, but has not emphasized it in his presidential campaigns.

In his speech this afternoon, Paul described himself as "very strong right to life" and claimed that when he was in training in the 1950s, "It was assumed everybody was pro-life and abortions weren’t to be done."

By the 1960s, Paul said, that was changing. He recalled that physicians were "defying the law in doing abortions," and told a bracing story of seeing doctors deliver a baby via Caesarean section and then "put it in a bucket in the corner of the room and let it die and pretended nobody heard it."

"We cannot play God and make those decisions. All life is precious," Paul said. "You have to understand where that liberty and that life comes from. It does not come from the government. It comes from our creators."

Pander bear is out of its cage. Shall we next expect a canned pro-Israel speech, or would that be over the line for him . . . ?

Yeah but he’s a kook on foreign policy.

Look at our foreign policy with Mexico...It’s fantastic, and such a benefit to America. It just gets better all the time!

Pander Bear can find a side on this position to pander, err, I mean appeal, to all sides. For example:

Voted NO on restricting interstate transport of minors to get abortions. To prevent the transportation of minors in circumvention of certain laws relating to abortion, and for other purposes, including:

Reference: Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act; Bill HR 748 ; vote number 2005-144 on Apr 27, 2005

Voted NO on making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime.

Vote to pass a bill that would make it a criminal offense to harm or kill a fetus during the commission of a violent crime. The measure would set criminal penalties, the same as those that would apply if harm or death happened to the pregnant woman, for those who harm a fetus. It is not required that the individual have prior knowledge of the pregnancy or intent to harm the fetus. This bill prohibits the death penalty from being imposed for such an offense. The bill states that its provisions should not be interpreted to apply a woman's actions with respect to her pregnancy.
Reference: Unborn Victims of Violence Act; Bill HR 1997 ; vote number 2004-31 on Feb 26, 2004

Voted NO on forbidding human cloning for reproduction & medical research. Vote to pass a bill that would forbid human cloning and punish violators with up to 10 years in prison and fines of at least $1 million. The bill would ban human cloning, and any attempts at human cloning, for both reproductive purposes and medical research. Also forbidden is the importing of cloned embryos or products made from them.

Reference: Human Cloning Prohibition Act; Bill HR 534 ; vote number 2003-39 on Feb 27, 2003

Voted NO on federal crime to harm fetus while committing other crimes. Vote to pass a bill that would make it a federal crime to harm a fetus while committing any of 68 federal offenses or a crime under military law. Abortion doctors and women whose own actions harmed their fetuses would be exempt.

Reference: Bill sponsored by Graham, R-SC; Bill HR 503 ; vote number 2001-89 on Apr 26, 2001

Voted NO on barring transporting minors to get an abortion. The Child Custody Protection Act makes it a federal crime to transport a minor across state lines for the purpose of obtaining an abortion.

Reference: Bill sponsored by Ros-Lehtinen, R-FL; Bill HR 1218 ; vote number 1999-261 on Jun 30, 1999

Rated 56% by the NRLC, indicating a mixed record on abortion. Paul scores 56% by the NRLC on abortion issues

OnTheIssues.org interprets the 2006 NRLC scores as follows:

Hmmm...would you say the same thing about Perry, Bachmann, or Palin? I’m not aware of a time that Paul spoke in favor of abortion.

Is 56% a bad rating compared to other candidates?

Bachman needs voice training . She has a bad octive when she projects. Someone needs to at least get a mixer plugged into her PA system. It is a little like the screech on the montage Laura Ingram plays on her show

Suddenly, the thread turns to other countries. What about them? Did he offer more support? Why not?

What a surprise.

Tens of millions Americans unemployed, millions of lost homes, lost businesses, lost investments, the country crawling with millions here illegally, choking off all services, healthcare, as were forced to subsidize these country killing policies, while our economy is on the eve of destruction, dollar becoming worthless, we're now broke, with the next 20 generations in debt multiple trillions, to Communist countries no less, the American united are becoming the divided thanks to a corrupt oligarchy government run by wealthy insiders, and the politically well connected, but we must be concerned with Israel, and every other country on earth.

people spend their time working on things they REALLY care about.

So what bill did Ron Paul work on and get Democratic support (hopefully to pass)? Was it something to do with spending?

Or maybe something to do with Abortion?

No, here’s how Ron is wasting his time, and it’s the reason he is no contender for anything at a national level
