The Left's Faustian Bargain

The Palestinians' decision to place the issue of the establishment of a Palestinian state before the United Nations for a vote next month repudiates the principles of the 1993 Oslo peace framework, through which the Palestinian Authority was formed out of the PLO. The Oslo framework dictated that the final status of Judea, Samaria, Gaza and Jerusalem would be determined through direct negotiations between the PLO and Israel.

While brazen, the Palestinians' UN gambit is not the first time that Israel has been confronted with unequivocal proof that the Palestinians have been operating in bad faith.

Recently, several leading politicians have argued that Israel should respond to the PLO's UN initiative by abrogating its commitment to the Oslo peace accords and applying Israeli law to Judea and Samaria. This is certainly a reasonable response to the Palestinians' clear bad faith.

Far more difficult than responding to the Palestinians' bad faith however is conceiving and implementing a strategy for contending with the Israeli Left's decision to side with the Palestinians against their own country's right to exist.

The big question for the 21st century: What drives the left to hate civilisation?

Libtards have certain irrational beliefs:

1) malevolent sense of life: anti-man, anti-life
2) malevolent universe mentality: the universe is inimicable to man and man by his very nature is helpless and doomed
3) pathological hatred and fear of economic progress

The Left denies the existence of objective values - to them, truth is relative and reality malleable to desire. Objective standards of value are shunned in favor of emotions and feelings, and "need" elevated above rights as the primary standard by which a fair and just society is to be judged. In a free society, and absent the use of force or fraud, unequal conditions are the natural result of differences between people relative to ability, knowledge, ambition, honesty, and chance, among many other factors.

Only a modern collectivist would see this as "unfair", and demand that something (i.e.- State action) be done about it, in the form of forcible redistribution. Traditional Western civilization depended upon common values and frequently self-enforced good behavior of its citizens in order to thrive in a marketplace largely free of government intervention, though certainly not of objectively-applied laws.

Leftists have turned this world upside down, breaking the voluntary bonds between individuals (largely: families and churches), making laws subjective and unknowable, vastly increasing regulations and taxes, and replacing the idea of the cheerful self-reliant citizen with that of the Despondent Dependent.

Why? Because in their hearts, they are destructively anti-human and anti-Good. Because they are driven by fear and hatred to deny responsibility for their own lives (and objective reality) because the success and achievement of others serves as an affront to them, rather than a model to be emulated.
