Fire Fineman

Media Bias: What do you call someone who advises the White House on how to get its latest stimulus spending idea through Congress? These days, you'd probably call him a mainstream journalist.

On Tuesday, MSNBC's liberal talk-show host Chris Matthews was pitching his idea about how President Obama could sell his new stimulus plan, arguing that the White House should offer specific examples of jobs created in congressional districts and "force" Republicans "to say yes or no to creating jobs in their own districts."

Howard Fineman, who serves as the Huffington Post's senior political editor, liked the idea so much he personally pitched it to the White House. "As a matter of fact," he told Matthews, "I summarized your proposal and reminded the people at the White House of it, and asked them to take a look."

Now, Matthews is a left-wing opinion-monger. But Fineman claims to be a straight journalist, who once boasted that he'd "been covering all sides of every argument in politics for a quarter century" and was "as fair and neutral as it is humanly possible to be."

And while the Huffington Post is decidedly left-wing — Wednesday's front page at one point featured no fewer than five hit pieces on the GOP — it still fancies itself as a legitimate news outlet that's "beyond left and right."

While Fineman and Matthews are obviously political lefties that have become entirely unwatchable of late, I suspect neither of them really want to be this stridently liberal. Oh they are Democrats no doubt, but I believe they both really love politics and are not naturally the fringe idiots they appear to be in the media these days. They are both stuck with MSNBC and HuffPo. You could see Matthews moving to the crazy left as MSNBC changed it’s template from somewhat liberal to radically leftist. And Fineman, well he’s hooked up with Arianna now and has to cater to that audience.

Once in awhile Fineman will turn up on conservative radio programs like the Laura Ingraham show and it is like he is an entirely different person. He almost seems to be apologizing to Laura in a “hey, I don’t really mean it but I get paid really good to push this leftist drivel these days”.

What an incredibly brilliant idea — throw money at pork barrel projects and take credit for creating jobs. I wonder why no one has thought of it before.
