As suspension ends, Greanias faces difficult return to Metro (after cruising rent boys)

As George Greanias returns to work today at Metro, it's unclear how well he can overcome public humiliation to regain the respect and authority he had earned in less than a year as the transit agency's leader.

Greanias, the Metropolitan Transit Authority president and CEO, resumes his post following a one-week suspension without pay, a punishment imposed by the Metro board July 28 after he got caught surfing sexually explicit websites on Metro's premises using its wireless Internet system.

Since the surprising announcement 10 days ago, Greanias has been publicly silent, spending time with family members out of town. The Houston Chronicle's attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful.

...A routine audit last month of Metro employees' Internet use showed that Greanias used his personal computer in the Metro building to access adult-content sites on 14 days between Feb. 9 and July 1. There was no indication he had viewed child pornography or hired prostitutes, Metro said, although the sites included escort services.

...Greanias, 63, earns $235,000 a year, plus benefits..

...Joe Bontke, outreach manager for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Houston, said in an interview that the etiquette of electronic technology is still in flux.

"We are all learning that mistakes are going to be made," Bontke said. "I would bet that the first pencil invented didn't have an eraser...

The man who was in line for Houston's mayor's office (at least several cycles ago).

And while the statement has been made that he did not actually use city computers to hire male prostitutes (only cruise them), the audit of his email was based on keyword searches, not total review of communications.

When the city of Houston went after another city employee in the wake of 9-11, he was being investigated for soliciting a co-worker for sex for money. IN that investigation, that worker was found to have celebrated the 9-11 attacks in an unrelated email.

Greanias is being protected. Chuck Rosenthal was run out of office for an email with a joke about Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson tossing a coin in a well wishing to end racism with the two race baiters disappearing in the final panel. That and a case of adultery that was uncovered. Chuck Rosenthal was a jerk who deserved to be run out of office for other matters but the city is NOT being consistent.

Anyone wonder why this country is in trouble? With the thugs that either being elected or hired; we haven’t got a chance except to go down.

First thing Metro could do to be more profitable is to put PAID ADVERTISING on the sides (inside and out) of buses/rail cars. But NO.

He gets a quarter million a year and is focused on more stimulating matters.

God told Abraham that He would not destroy Sodom and Gomorrah if he could find at least ten godly people there.

I wonder how many upright people God could find in any of America’s large cities today?

Maybe the scandalette will dampen his political future a tad, but this was a mere slap on the wrist.

[EEOC Moron] "We are all learning that mistakes are going to be made," Bontke said. "I would bet that the first pencil invented didn't have an eraser......"

What do you take us for, you moron?! If he'd been "caught" posting to a Fred Phelps discussion board or writing articles for Stormfront, he'd have been fired the same day -- like that educrat over in Heart of Dixie last week.

Greanias is being protected.

There is absolutely not the slightest shadow of flaming doubt about that, FRiend. I am so sick of these queer politicians and their infinite indulgences from assorted gaybot pols. In this case it's Annise Parker's fault -- she has all those Metro board members and senior officers' jobs in her pocket, because of the way Metro's composed and structured. It was her call, and she went easy on a fellow Movement Gay.

I love how they fixed the Wham-Bam-Tram problem. Thing was constantly a hazard to traffic but in 2006 accidents went to nothing. Their magic fix was that the Houston Chronicle stopped reporting them.

Note to George: You make a quarter million a year, buy an iPhone. Stay off the company system. Chump.

I am surprised Greanias is embarrassed at all. These days, to be a sexual deviant is cool. And if he is now outed as gay; so much the better.

Parker, Greanias...this, sadly, is a preview of the future of Houston politicians. Gays, child molesters, pervs of all kinds. My theory is that most of the sane voters who used to keep that kind of trash at bay have moved out of the city limits, leaving them to entertain their constituencies with all forms of foolishness.

The rest of us (more-or-less normal folks) are left with no real choices to vote for.

Well hell, the last mayor's race was identity politics all the way.

The repub candidate didn't even campaign as far as I could tell.

Let's see, we had the old white dude, the gay dude (seriously, have you seen her?), the old black dude and the quiet hispanic dude. It was pick the flavor/color/identity of the day. (shakes head)

Wow...I guess this means we're both still alive?
That's what I call a good day. How are things out there in the woods?
Yep, all is mostly well. Busier than a one-armed paper hanger, but pretty well.
