Then again, maybe Obama administration DID directly traffic guns to Mexico

Friday's column began with a bit of a qualifier:
In discussing "Project Gunwalker," this column tries to observe the perhaps small (but nevertheless important) distinction between directly trafficking guns, and "walking" them. That's why readers will find instance after instance of reference being made here to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' (BATFE's) "facilitating the trafficking" of guns. Basically, the accusation being made here is not that the BATFE directly trafficked the guns.
There is, though, another way to look at it, in light of some startling allegations made by Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) Acting Director Kenneth Melson on July 4. In testimony he gave that day to the "Project Gunwalker" investigation, led by Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA, and Chariman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee) and Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA, and Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee), Melson revealed that some of the "gunwalked" guns may have been paid for courtesy of the American taxpayer. From Rep. Issa's and Sen. Grassley's letter to Attorney General Eric Holder (pdf file):
The evidence we have gathered raises the disturbing possibility that the Justice Department not only allowed criminals to smuggle weapons but that taxpayer dollars from other agencies may have financed those engaging in such activities.
Fox News, in fact, quoted sources claiming that the BATFE's top target was himself a paid informant for the FBI:
In a separate development, congressional sources have learned that not only was U.S. taxpayer money being used to buy guns that were later sent to Mexico, but the main target of the investigation was actually a FBI informant and former drug dealer who had been deported years ago.
Remember from Friday's column that former BATFE Phoneix field division Special Agent in Charge

The ATF has said that there are still over 1,400 guns unaccounted for in Mexico, there were a 1,000 guns "walked" to Honduras and other Central American countries. That is a lot of guns and every time some show up at the scene of a murder/shootout there will be new press about it. Especially if more LE agents are murdered with them. Especially if Hezbollah in Mexico gets a hold of some and murders some Americans with them.
This story has the potential to re-surface afresh for a decade with all those arms out there.
This story is going to stay alive for a long time.

“
Granted, the “walking” would seem to have been going on at a higher level than Newell’s, or even Melson’s, since supposedly no one in BATFE knew anything about the FBI informant. So perhaps the BATFE can claim ignorance, by virtue of the fact that the highly placed gun trafficker was the FBI’s creature, and not BATFE’s. We know, however, that the FBI was in on Operation Fast and Furious (as were DHS, DEA and even the IRS), so the administration itself is implicated up to its eyeballs in even Newell’s bizarrely restrictive definition of ‘gunwalking.’”
Whoa! Higher and higher and higher it goes, and where it stops, we already know.

I still think it also was a plan to get public support for more intrusive gun control laws.

Could be.
Gunwalker: Smoking Gun Email? An internal ATF email seems to support the assertion that Fast and Furious was a PR stunt for gun control.
PJMs Bob Owens has long speculated that the primary reason for Operation Fast and Furious was to perpetuate the lie that 90 percent of illegal firearms in Mexico were from the United States.
Owens assertion was buoyed on Wednesday by internal ATF emails obtained by Townhall.com. One email reads:
"Can you see if these guns were all purchased from the same FfL and at one time. We are looking at anecdotal cases to support a demand letter on long gun multiple sales. Thanks Mark R. Chait Assistant Director Field Operations."

It’s hard to imagine what else they may have intended. It’s not like they had some kind of tracking system in the buttstock of the rifles or anything similar.

From what I have read, two, yes that is correct, two (2) rifles had GPS units installed. I have only read of one of them that functioned, and it was written that the agents watched the GPS indicate that it went further and further into Mexico until the batteries ran out.

Why go to the bother and expense of tracking them? They’re easy enough to find when Mexican authorities sort through the carnage of a shootout with the Federales or local police. /s

Obama is an avowed Marxist who needs the people unarmed and at his mercy. And Holder is a criminal who will do anything that furthers his agenda against the 'white oppressors' who live in his mind.
So there isn't a doubt in my mind that Obama and Eric 'My People' Holder intentionally and with Malice Aforethought trafficked these guns and military ordinance, like grenades, rocket launchers and actual 'Machine Guns', to Mexican drug cartels.
As that was the fastest and/or only way they could get the phony 'Gun Crime' stats needed in order to rile up the sheeple so they would demand more gun control laws. Even call for a 'State of emergency' in the border states so the DOJ-ATF could start seizing weapons from Dealers and Citizens outright. And then, slowly work North from the border states.
And that's, that!

I wonder how long it is going to take before lawsuits are filed by families of Mexicans and OTM’s (Hondurans, etc) who have had relatives killed by these “gunwalker” guns.
Again, it will be “we the taxpayers” who financially clean up behind the US gubmint slime who have done this.
