Polygamy and raping children are not the same thing. Both are destructive and evil but they I don’t think the early LDS church supported marriage between 50 yr old men and 14 yr old girls.

I’m wondering if there are a lot of similar groups that are doing the same thing.

There was, at last count, at least 50 of these polygamy groups (with prophets) coming from Mormonism. And that does not include the ‘independent’ polygamists (those outside a formal ‘church’.

I really believe everyone is missing the bigger picture. The main LDS church in Salt Lake City is complicit in all of this. Declaring Jeffs a molester and accepting that “F” LDS is an offshoot gives the larger church an “out”. This kind of crap goes on in lots of LDS families. Don’t ask me how I know.

You would be incorrect in that. All of the early LDS leaders and prophets (Young, Pratt, Joseph F Smith, Wilford Woodruff, Lorenzo Snow, John Taylor) took child brides well past their 50’s and some into their 80’s.

And, polygamy has never been condemned or repudiated. When asked, the LDS will say “we got rid of that 100 yrs ago” or ‘we no longer practice it’, but the ‘revelation’ regarding polygamy that these groups use (Doctrine and Covenants 132) is still in LDS scripture, still believed and still supported. There are also many rank and file LDS who are looking forward to the time when the LDS church is considered ‘worthy’ again and polygamy will be restored.

The more you know about polygamy, the more disgusting it is.

Terry is right. There was an LDS family in my congregation (Ward) whose father married off his 14 and 16 yr old daughters to marines so they would remain ‘pure’. At the time, you could still get married in Utah at 14 with parental permission.

They keep their numbers close to the vest, and if you do not go through a name removal process they will keep your name on the rolls (and count you as a member) until your 110th birthday.

However, a few years ago, by their own admission they were at ZERO percent growth rate. However, the truth is, as seen on a lot of ex-mormon forums and such, they are losing probably close to 200,000 members OFFICALY each year, that does not include those who do not go through the name removal process (which can be a hassle).

I had to fight for 18 months to get my name of LDS records.

I'm not informed about Mormonism. In fact, I just did a Google search to see if there are any churches in my area, and there are.

I highly suggest you go and watch:

http//www.whatloveisthis.tv

I was where you are - when a couple of years ago I looked up on the TV and saw the rescue in progress.

I read all the books - Carolyn Jessop, Elissa Wall and even some of the ones written by the LeBarons - the Mexico faction. (His Favorite Wife and Shattered Dreams)

But - Doris Hanson on what love is this - contrasts Mormon beliefs with those of Christianity. She also covers polygamy. You can stream each hour on the internet when you have time. Well worth it.

20 years ago, in order to have your name removed, you had to go through a ‘bishops court’ and be excommunicated. A man in AZ sued claiming slander and defemation in the early 1990’s and won and forced a change.

Now, offically all you have to do is send a letter (preferably one of the letters online and cc a law office) to SLC and your local congregation. You have to specify no contact or you will recive visits and letters asking you to reconsider and informing you that your ‘blessings’ of baptism and such are REVOKED (they use the term revoked).

When I left, I had moved and had to go through the process of having my local records located and transferred to my local congregation and then deal with the name removal locally, then after several months I was still receiving phone calls asking for my current information so members of the congregation could come visit me. A letter from my lawyer finally resolved the situation.

From what I have heard, it is easier now to get it done without jumping through their hoops, but a lot of people don’t bother with it and so are still officially members of the LDS church.

It is very well worth the time. I have known Doris for about 10 years now and she is amazing.

As much as I would like that, they might argue it would be ‘cruel and unusual punishment’ especially if he has received threats from other inmates. Some prisoners are put in solitary or special wards for their own protection.

I'm watching 'What Love is This,' and her guest, Bill McKeever, wrote this book.

“Prosecutors have promised to play still another recording — this one of Jeffs having sex with the 12 year old girl — before resting their case.”

I’m pretty sure it is against the law to listen to that tape.

It didn’t support adultery but church leaders married other mens wives.

Ping to those not on MizSterious’ ping list...I suggest you read the entire article...and then ask yourself why Utah and Arizona have allowed this cult to exist for decades.
