Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja would like weapons to disappear from private homes, reports Social Democratic newspaper Uutispäivä Demari.

Tuomioja says there is no need to keep weapons at home, adding that weapons obtained for hobby purposes, like hunting and shooting, can be stored on the premises of monitored clubs.

He notes that such hobbies do not require automatic weapons or repeating firearms.

According to the minister, the gun law reform that came into force in June was a step in the right direction, but there is still a way to go.

Great for the criminals, with them knowing there would be no deadly weapons to confront them when breaking and entering.

The Finns have fallen a long way since kicking the s**t out of the Nazis in WWII. I suppoze the poleeze will carry only soft rubber billyclubs and pepperspray. Likewise, handcuffs will be made of soft plastic so as not to hurt the suspect in custody.

[Finland] Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja ... says there is no need to keep weapons at home...

The world will not be safe until everyone, young and old, rich and poor, male and female, by the tens of thousands, spontaneously appear in massed protest outside of any politician's home anywhere in the world who want to disarm them, and demand the immediate arrest, conviction and life imprisonment of such a politician for attempted mass murder and crimes against humanity, and do not stop protesting until this is accomplished every single damn time one of these sh!theads spouts off.

Just like the UK after the Scottish elementary school massacre.

If they take all of the guns, there will be a (unexpected) rise in violent crime.

“Tuomioja says there is no need to keep weapons at home...”

I guess Mr. Tuomioja has forgotten his history. The former Soviet Union attacked Finland during the 1939-1940 winter (aka The Winter War). After a short armistice the war resumed from 25 June 1941 to 19 September 1945 (aka The Continuation War) and the Lapland War (late 1944 to April 1945).

Personal firearms were instrumental in stopping the Russian invaders.

At the very end of the Continuation War, when the Soviets
resumed their advance through Karelia, the Finns were forced to seek terms from them. One stibulation was that
they eject the ZGermans from Finland, which they did although it was no rout. Scorched earth all the way..
