I realize this data is dated, but I want to see some discussion of the United States as a land owner. Is this what we really want / need?
All you need to know is “They” control almost ALL of the Green River Formation under Colorado, Utah and Wyoming and its 1.1 to 1.3 TRILLION barrels of recoverable oil!
I live in NJ. In our municipality, ONE THIRD of the land is owned by either the municipality, the county, the state and the federal governments. These are seperate parcels of land and are not co-owned.
Don't forget this when the Fed tells you that they can't pay back the Social Security that you paid in!

The American government is just another mafia gang out to enrich themselves and their buddies. That’s all.
There is no such thing as ‘private’ anything in America. There is no such thing as ‘freedom’ anymore.
There is no such thing as a ‘private business’. Unless you buy from who they tell you, hire who they tell you, sell to who they tell you at the price they tell you, and the most important thing of all, unless you give them their self determined ‘cut of the take’, the gov will shut you down and take what they want.
There is no ‘private’ ownership of land or anything at all in America. Everything owned in America is rented year to year from the government. Try missing a couple of rent payments to the government and see what happens. They will foreclose and come take everything you have and sell it. And, if you happen to be sitting on some property they (or their buddies) want, they just ‘take it’ in any case.
We are all just puny serfs laboring to support the outrageous hundreds of millions dollar salaries and lifestyles of our feudal lords and their friends. The so called ‘public serpents’ are now our masters and our oppressors.
Other than National Parks and federal government locations all of this should be deeded back to the states.
if you count wetland regulations and the chesapeake bay and ocean watersheds, maryland is 100% owned by the state and feds.
the data displayed on the map is appalling. we have no private property rights anymore...
welcome to the new world order.

Didn’t Clinton sell some of this land to foreigners and aren’t drug dealers cultivating it?
In 1996, he created the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument by taking control of 1.9 million acres of land in southern Utah. Over 135,000 acres of this land was being leased by private developers were producing over 65,000 barrels of oil a year from five active wells. Bill Clintons fiat shut down those operations and capped those wells for good, depriving the country of a significant source of domestic energy.
All of it. Our government no longer protects personal property rights. Just because they haven't taken yours yet doesn't mean they won't.
What we need is a great big LAND SALE!
A) Uncle Sam is broke and he needs the money.
B) (Just on Principle) It makes NO SENSE for ANY “government” to “own” 30% of ANY “Free” country.
Too much.
The answer is: Our creditors own the West.
I hear the ChiComs would love to buy lots of that Western land especially in California and move a few millions of Chinese settlers there
The ChiComs pay 2-3 trillion and that takes a large chunk out of the Federale debt. The Germans were demanding the Greeks sell the Parthenon and other historic sites to raise cash.
Thanks for posting this. Very interesting.
Way way! Too much! Particularly in the western States. The land needs to be sold off, or transferred to the State with jurisdiction(so that it can be sold off by them).
