House GOP yanks debt-limit bill
Politico ^ | 7-26-11 | AKE SHERMAN & JOHN BRESNAHAN

House Republicans delayed by at least a day a floor vote on their package to raise the debt ceiling, the latest challenge facing Speaker John Boehner and GOP leaders as they try to avoid a default on the nation’s debt. The decision to move the vote to Thursday or beyond came after the Congressional Budget Office reported late Tuesday night that the package Boehner crafted would only reduce deficits by $850 billion, $150 billion short of the speaker’s goal of $ 1 trillion in budget and spending cuts.

Not true, the CBO said the total savings would be $1.1 Trillion, not enought, but Politico is spinning a lie.

Why are they pulling the bill then if not true? I guess Bonehead and Cantor need more time to drum up the votes.

If the DEFICIT is any amount more than ZERO, we have to borrow more and the DEBT grows. “Reducing the deficit” is a meaningless soundbite.

BTW, whether it’s 850 Billion or 2 Zillion. It’s phantom cuts anyway.
The GOP is fighting over phantom cuts over 10 years that will never be made. It’s a sham, like the CR Deal.

If it cuts that much in 10 years they may as well say it cuts 100 trillion dollars, becasue both numbers over that amount of time are meaningless.

Yeppers, It’s insane to see grow people argue about a trillion here or a trillion there. It’s all phantom numbers. The only cuts that matter is the here and now.

Heard on Hannity today about some proposal by a congresscritter named Connie Mack (?)...(hope i'm right), called the Penny-plan. Put a 1% cut in the budget. (I think thats what was said). Didn't hear much about it, other than it cuts "real-time" spending. And should balance the budget in 5-6 years.

Anyone else hear about this?

Not true, the CBO said the total savings would be $1.1 Trillion, not enought, but Politico is spinning a lie.

That's not what I read.

From Fox News: "The Congressional Budget Office has told House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) that his debt ceiling fallback plan will reduce the deficit by about $850 billion over ten years."

More from Fox News: "The rewrite came one day before the House was set to vote on the legislation, which sought to cut $1.2 trillion in spending over the next decade. But the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Tuesday that the package would cut less than $1 trillion.

MarketWatch - "House Speaker John Boehner is rewriting his bill to lift the debt ceiling and cut spending after the Congressional Budget Office ruled his plan would have only cut spending by $850 billion over 10 years rather than the $1.2 trillion the Republican sought."

So...where is what you are saying posted? Everything I have seen says UNDER a trillion.

Just submit Ryan’s plan and let it go at that. If Reid and Obama don’t sign it. Tango Sierra.

The CBO revealed the score in a Tuesday letter to the speaker.

The score is against the latest CBO baseline as adjusted to reflect the 2011 spending cuts deal between Congress and the White House that cut $38 billion in budget authority. Those 2011 cuts have ripple effects over the budget window.

The CBO has also determined that taking that earlier deal into account, the spending levels in the Boehner plan is a $1.1 trillion cut in the deficit.

The problem here is the Speaker of the House didn't even know what was in his own bill and went on all the national radio talk shows selling something not in the bill.

Americans cannot trust anyone in leadership in Washington DC.

People need to prepare for the social upheaval coming soon. Our leaders cannot save us. The American people are responsible for electing and re-electing these socialists and so the American people deserve whatever fate awaits them at the hands of these thieves and cutthroats.
