The arraignment for two men suspected of attacking San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium was delayed Monday.
Louie Sanchez, 29, and Marvin Norwood, 30, have been in custody since Thursday in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Arraignments for the day began at 8:30 a.m. About 9:45 a.m., Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Shelly Torrealba said not all attorneys were present, so the court proceeded with other arraignments on the calendar.
Shortly before noon, the judge announced the arraignment would be delayed until Aug. 10. A bail hearing for Sanchez was scheduled for Aug. 1.
Sanchez and Norwood appeared together in court standing about 20 feet apart, with their backs to the audience,
The criminal complaint alleges that the suspects "did cut and disable the tongue, and put out an eye and slit (Stow's) nose, ear and lip.''
The complaint also alleges that the attack "caused Bryan Stow to become comatose due to brain injury and to suffer paralysis.''

And, this I do not understand: Sanchez faces a maximum of nine years in prison, while Norwood faces up to eight years behind bars, according to prosecutors.
Excuse me?!! They tortured and mutilated Bryan Stow. In addition to the above grim details, they put out one of his eyes. This does not constitute attempted murder?????
In my opinion, after learning the details of what was done to Bryan Stow, this spells the eventual end of major league baseball in Los Angeles. IOW, the Dodgers need to move to another town. Decent people will not want to attend games at Dodger Stadium, on the chance they are in the company of diabolical thugs.
Did the DA bring them up on lesser charges than attempted murder???
Remember in the recent Casey Anthony case, she was found not guilty of the most serious charges. Many criticized the DA there for bringing the murder charges. The thinking was that they certainly would have gotten conviction on lesser charges such as accessory to a death, or manslaughter, or child neglect.
Maybe the same thinking is at work here. Depending on evidence, and having to get the evidence past a jury, they may be thinking they can’t go for attempted murder based on what they have. Just saying..........
Dodger attendance has really tanked this year, due in part to this incident. There has been a growing gang banger type element at Dodger Stadium in recent years, which frightens off the paying customers.
There’s been talk of building a new Dodger Stadium in downtown LA. But it’s all talk as of now.
The new Dodger Stadium belongs in Brooklyn.
yes.
Mayhem. That is the same as the charge against the blacks who threw bricks at white trucker Reginald Denny's head after they pulled him from the cab of his truck during the Rodney King verdict riots.
I think there is some politics, and background dealing, involved in these lesser charges.
One more reason this is not a nice place for nice people to live.

I am thinking also, per your comments, if prosecutors now dumb down charges because of dumbed-down juries. God help us.

It's easier to pursue attempted murder charges, when you can prove there was intent to do just that. That can be hard to do. In cases like this, your dealing with beer drinking fans, wanting to show how tough they are, by punching someone out. These two clowns probably have no real intent to "murder" the victim, but will live to regret their actions. No winners here.
It was apparently this boy who talked about it and was brought in for questioning - leading to the two arrests.
Not usually a proponent of ‘new’ laws - but “mayhem” doesn't cover MUTILATION.
We apparently need a law against mutilation. Mutilation is, in most cases, worse than murder. Murder I can understand in the heat of the moment, and I even think a murderer may well not offend again and can be rehabilitated. A mutilator..... the rest of their natural life behind bars seems the only sane answer.
My goodness! The news reported he was badly beaten, but that poor victim was brutally tortured. This was far more terrible than reported.
What a sad day in baseball.
I don’t get it...from being badly beaten up to have been sliced up and physically mutilated....the SCM is just one big scheming monster, afraid to even report the truth when it happens...
Hi there. Well, later yesterday I heard on radio that the mutilation did not actually occur. Stow was not cut up as described. The stupid media mis-reported from a court document that described examples of mayhem. Except for that one comment I heard I didn’t see any other media corrections of the “story.”
I just felt the cutting didn’t fit the story at all, anyway. Too many questions, as in why wasn’t it reported before and how could they have the time to do all that. I had also seen a photo allegedly of Stow on a gurney, face up, and his face was pale, not bloody at all.
I see. Thanks for that correction. All of those things read together sounded a trifle heinous.
