It's a ga$! New study fuels fracking backing (Cuomo Supports It)

Gov. Cuomo is hailing a new Pennsylvania study showing that the huge Marcellus Shale natural-gas field on the New York border could supply 25 percent of the nation's gas needs and create hundreds of thousands of jobs.  Cuomo -- who's weighing a late-June report by the state Department of Environmental Conservation concluding that controversial "hydrofracking" gas drilling could be done safely in most parts of the Southern Tier -- said the Pennsylvania report showed the enormous potential for job creation and economic development that the drilling offered New York.Investment and production on Pennsylvania’s side of the Marcellus Shale natural-gas field is growing faster than expected, boosting efforts to begin drilling in New York.

"Assuming it can be done safely and is properly regulated, the economic reports from Pennsylvania show the potential financial and economic rewards from developing this industry," said Cuomo spokesman Joshua Vlasto.  The new report, prepared by Penn State University researchers at the behest of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, an industry-funded group, found that investment and production in the Marcellus Shale fields -- adjacent to New York's Southern Tier -- has been skyrocketing.

It found that gas production had quadrupled from 2009 to 2010 and that the number of wells brought into operation grew by 77 percent.  The study estimated that gas production this year would rise by an additional 250 percent and that during the next nine years, Marcellus Shale production could

Cuomo isn't stupid, this will help NY's economy by creating jobs and generating taxes. Like Chrisite, he instituted a 2% tax cap and cut the budget.

Cuomo isn't stupid...

Make that he's not stupid anymore. As Secretary of HUD (Dept of Housing & Urban Development) he pushed hard for increasing home ownership, which is code for forcing banks to accept dodgy borrowers. It was a factor (one of several) in the housing/debt boom and subsequent financial disaster which we are still digging out of.

He’s also looking for ANY excuse to close Indian Point, the NY area’s lone Nuclear Power Plant. It reportedly generates anywhere from 30-40 percent of the NYC area’s electricity but was built way to close to densely populated areas. Closing it would be disastrous for consumers, but he still talks about it. Perhaps he thinks this will balance public opinion.

I think he’s grooming himself to be president. The homosexual marriage law may hurt his chances.

It’s the best job market up the road....particularly since we’re FINALLY thinking twice about ethanol subsidies.

Interesting...the Dems in NY and even nationally will have a much tougher time trying to stop a certified liberal from trying to help out this country than they’d ever have trying to stop a Republican. This may be fun to watch.

That 2% cap can be easily set aside by local TAX needs.

Be sure to write to your congressman and ask them to overturn the Great Lakes Directional drilling ban.

Interesting video on how fracking is done.

And people wonder why oil companies need so much money to produce oil and gas!

How come it’s only here that I see somebody write that forcing banks to accept dodgy borrowers (a) happened, and (b) was a factor in the financial disaster?

Surely there must be more people than that who are aware of those facts, but the only thing I ever see or hear is “greed” — bankers, Wall Street, Republican fat cats, whatever.

Some very large portion of our population believes a lot of stuff that is just crap, and in a representative republic that is a recipe for disaster.

We must, absolutely must, start doing what the leftards did: get the word out by hook or by crook. Pamphleteer, pass out leaflets, have actual rallies, etc.

Hey, no one says we like him -- or even trust him. But he ain't stupid. New York needs the jobs and the tax revenue badly.

I am heartened at this. Upstate is desperate. Several thousand drilling jobs would be a real blessing.

And, as an extra added bonus, the inner-city liberals will be furious!

The best book I've read (and I've read several) about the buildup to and details of the crash is "The Sellout" by Charles Gasparino. It's out there, it's readily available, but to answer your question, it requires that a person be willing to obtain it and read 400 or so pages. The average voter's attention span won't allow that; neither will that of most MSM pundits.

Cuomoo is trying to set himself up for a run for the Presidency. He is a die hard liberal punk, pretending to be a pro-business pol.

A REAL stimulus would be giving people in the Northeast a tax credit to convert their dinosaur heating oil houses to natural gas. Cut a big chunk of our dependence on foreign oil, create an instant market for frack gas and increase the sales value of NE property-a win, win, win.

Wouldn’t that cut Chavez out of his “charity” gig?

NE libs wouldn’t want that to happen.

Actually, even better will be the heads exploding in Ithaca because Cornell (Berkely of the East) is right in the middle of the drilling area!!!!!!!!

I love it when liberals go violently insane!
