(Reuters Health) - Black men are half as likely to die at any given time if they're in prison than if they aren't, suggests a new study of North Carolina inmates.
The black prisoners seemed to be especially protected against alcohol- and drug-related deaths, as well as lethal accidents and certain chronic diseases.
But that pattern didn't hold for white men, who on the whole were slightly more likely to die in prison than outside, according to findings published in Annals of Epidemiology.
Researchers say it's not the first time a study has found lower death rates among certain groups of inmates -- particularly disadvantaged people, who might get protection against violent injuries and murder.

I think the factor of being top dog, even if its in prison, for men, is a boon to health.

They may get shanked, but they avoid the much greater risk of being shot, which is a real probability on the outside.

This is rather stunning. What a sad commentary on the condition of black neighborhoods. LBJs great society programs destroyed the black family, and this is the result.
Tax payer money payed for this study? Why? Somebody needed a job. Boy....we are really good at wasting money. Who cares about a study like this. It’s almost as good as doing a study on why the frizbee flies.
Don’t tell Michelle, she’ll be wantin to hook a brother up with some of that incarcerated health.

The study underscores how utterly dependent people can become on government for *everything* including life itself.

All of the above diseases are considered relatively preventable/controllable to a certain extent by the medical profession. If the disease rate is the same for both races in and out of prison, adding medical access is not going to solve the problem.
It's a cultural problem that will continue to exist, unless the ghetto culture is finally seen for what it is, and abandoned for the sanctity of the family.

If Jizzy Jackson and Al Sharptongue really gave a damn about “Black” Americans they would be screaming for enforcement of our immigration laws.
Debate about why “Blacks” persistently place lower on the economic scale, but there can hardly be any question that the illegals are contributing to the “Black” lack of opportunity far more than any “White” discrimination or intentions.
